Meet Joshlyn Wright | Adventure Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshlyn Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshlyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Both of my parents had started their own businesses and I got to see first hand what it was like to be you own boss. I loved that you can create your own schedule and have control over what you are doing. Flexibility has always been one of the most important factors when it comes to my career because of my passion for travel and adventure. After a few years of seasonal work, I decided I wanted something more continuous but still allow for that flexibility to travel. My answer was photography. Photography was always a hobby of mine and something I never even considered as a career path, yet something I have always been drawn to and had a passion for. I pictured my camera taking me all around the world and possibly even funding those trips and paying my bills. I have several outdoor hobbies I like to put time into as well and this job allows me to do just that. I dropped everything and invested what I had into starting my own photography business. My goal has always been to do brand photography and that is what I work on the most, but while getting started I grew a love for couples photography as well. While my business is still fairly new, I have loved all of my clients whether that be brand clients or couples. I have had so much fun and cannot wait to see where else my camera will take me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love creating in the outdoors and on adventures. I have been really drawn to working with brands in the outdoor industry as it allows me to do what I love while essentially working. I am super proud that I have tapped into this industry and get to work with amazing people and companies, while being able to travel and adventure. I dropped pretty much everything to work in this field and dive right in–fully. Since my business is still young, the first year working on my business and today the biggest struggle has been steady income/projects. Working as a freelance photographer, a lot of my work is project based depending on the company’s calendar and sometimes communication can take some time. So just trying to make sure I can pay the bills and also invest within myself and business has not been the easiest. I just take it day by day and know that the time will come when I won’t be worrying as much about all of these things. I love what I do and I just want to share that with everyone.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Tahoe, I would take them to the beach for a nice lake day and grab a beer at any of the breweries around. There are tons of hikes around and we can go rafting on the Truckee river. If it were winter, we can definitely go ski and enjoy some fun apres in the afternoon!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents and my boyfriend for always supporting me in my decisions.
