We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Fraser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art and creativity has always been a huge draw for me. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to pursue an artistic and creative career. However, that creative career path took many twists and turns along the way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work, whether it be an abstract or modern seascape, most often reflects a sense of calm. I guess it’s because I think the world is so very chaotic, that I want my art to bring a sort of peacefulness to those who view it. Professionally, as I continue to create these pieces, I find that tranquil quality really resonates with some people and because of that, I have fortunately had some success. I wouldn’t say my creative process is easy although I enjoy it very much. I find myself being my own harshest critic often, and that is something I need to continue to work on.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To me, the best part of San Diego is, of course, the coast. Not just our beautiful beaches but the charming cities that they occupy. So a perfect itinerary for me would be a daily walk or electric bike ride along the coast. We would undoubtably stop at Coffee Coffee (Luecadia), Lofty Coffee (Encinitas) or Zumbar (Cardiff), that is if we weren’t quite in the mood for a “manmosa” at Bestawan Pizza in Cardiff. Trips to the beach would occupy most of our days, until it was time to enjoy the sunset, dine at our new local restaurant, The Waverly, or pick up some “Cardiff Crack” from Seaside market and BBQ at home. For a larger outing, we would head down to La Jolla Cove, and stop at The Cove House for the perfect lunch or dinner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could never have pursued a career as a full time artist with out the love and support of my husband and three sons. They are endlessly encouraging. I think becoming a mother can make you a little fierce in the pursuit of your own personal goals. I want to be an example to my sons, to do what you love and the success will come.
