We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Eves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’m all about risk, I think most entrepreneurs are. I will always do my due diligence and research but the one thing that I truly rely on is my gut instinct- that visceral feeling deep inside that tells you that this is the one, this is without a doubt the right decision, the right investment or simply the right move. Every time I have trusted this feeling and acted on it, I have never let myself down.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a small business owner in the world of Arboriculture, there is a lot of competition. Our biggest differentiators are that we are very credential based and we also take a holistic approach to tree care. We are proud to be the first tree care company in San Diego that offers and all green crew that consists of all battery operated vehicles, tools and equipment in efforts to leave a smaller carbon footprint. Growing a business is never easy! Passion and commitment have always been my driving forces but organizing a team that is aligned with the same vision has been paramount in scaling our business. I’ve learned many lessons along the way! Focusing on my strengths and delegating everything else has been a great lesson. Hiring really good people as well, those that are better at their position than I ever could be. Once I’ve organized a team of rock stars, I do everything I can to retain them by showing appreciation and rewarding them for their efforts. Our vision at Coastal Tree Care is to connect our clients to nature through sustainable urban forestry. We want our clients to love their trees! We combine our passion and expertise with their goals and needs to create healthy, safe and beautiful trees that they can enjoy for years to come!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Luckily we live in San Diego! Whenever I have friends or family visit there are always several Must Do’s! I like to drive them around first so they can gain some perspective and enjoy the views. I like to drive along the west side of Mt. Soledad and then up to the memorial. Oscar’s Mexican Seafood is next on the list as they have the best fish tacos in town and, let’s face it, you must have fish tacos while visiting San Diego! Whoever visits always wants to go to the beach so we usually end up in Pacific Beach or Ocean Beach. If they’re here long enough, that may warrant a trip to Julian or even Baja Mexico.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give credit to the Tree Care Industry Association. As a member, I signed up for their mentorship program and was connected to an entire national network of mentors who have been instrumental in the growth of our organization. More importantly, these people have become some of my closest friends.
