Meet Johnnie Morris | Martial Arts – Self Defense Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnnie Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johnnie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to be able to control my own destiney. But also with my business i would be control on how I would on positively impact people i camw across.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As teenager a had a dream of becoming a martial arts instructor just like my instrutor Grandmaster Orange. I dreamted of it offen meaning like daily. I noticed as a teen people come and go in life and some relationship are not meant last for forever. Now as a middle aged adult I personally still have relationships with people for over 30 plus years to due martial arts. Even when I was out of physical martial arts training the relationship were still entacted. As I returned to physical martial arts training the dream returned. After a couple of years of assistant instructing the dream became a vision. That vision wasn’t only to a become a instructor but a business owner and certified martial arts instructor with my own academy. Our academy is named Aspire Martial Arts. Our academy is named Aspire Martial Arts becuase we want all our students to not only physical train but train mentally as well. We want their mind set to be ” I can do it, if I put my mind to it”. The same as my father taught me. This is why prior training, an activity or event our student bow and stated “Yes, I Can”. Keep asping to be phemomenal life just not in martial arts. Martial arts training at Aspire Martial Arts just a vechical to help you reach your life’s goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If had a guest come into town to vacation i would take them the following place for activities and fun. 1. Workout at Aspire Martial Arts 2. San Diego Padres game 3. Dinner at Old Town Mexican Cafe 4. Walk Balboa Park – Mueasums 5. Mission Beach Boardwalk 6. La Jolla Shores 7. Hike Torrey Pines
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a “Shoutout” to dad Phillip Morris. Since i can remember he’s been my superhero. I couldn’t ask for better supportive and caring father than. He told me as a very boy “I can do it, if I put mind to it”. That qoute from him has stuck with me everyday of life since. He’s also showed me the payoff of work. So even thou we didn’t up we grew up very blessed. My hero passed on July 3rd, 2019 but his legacy will continue. Also I’d like to give a “Shoutout” to my instructor Grandmaster Maurice Orange of Sidekicks Martial Arts Academy. He’s been in my life since the summer of 1984. He’s the one that showed me the massive impact martial arts can have in someone’s life as well as a whole community. I’ve recently discovered that my martial arts up bringing was very strict, structured and very physical by the request of my of father. With the pact they had, I very blessed because I feel it was a main ingredient to me becoming successful citizen of society.
