We had the good fortune of connecting with John Antoski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
One of the main habits that I use to promote my creative work is a simple Instagram post strategy. I alternate between posting a photo and then art. This motivates me to stay active and refreshed. If I only posted art I think I would burn out. I’ve always believed that environment and culture inspire my art, so this posting style is perfect for me!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a visual record of my life and the inspiration I find in the culture I live in. I work in black and white, mixed media. Lately I have been doing animations. The animations are simple loops that are paired with music that I post on Instagram every week. Animation is a new medium for me so things are fresh and exciting. I’m learning so much from each piece and letting the process guide the work. You can see these simple loops on my Instagram page at @johnantoski or online at johnantoski.com.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I live in Encinitas California, which is a small surf town 30 minutes from San Diego. When people come to visit me it’s usually to surf! I can walk to Swamis or ride my bike to Pipes or even Beacons. There’s a wave for every style of surfing around my neighborhood. If you’re a coffee drinker I will take you to the Panakin for the experience. My lunch spots include, Moonage Tacos, The Crack Shack and PPH. Bona Forchetta is the best pizza in North County and is walking distance to Captian Keynos where you can have a cheap drink that will set the tone for the rest of the night. From there skinny dipping at Moonlight Beach or Saloon for “just one”. Rinse and repeat for the rest of the weekend!
