Meet Joannie Lee | Entrepreneur, Mentor, Massage Therapist and Ergonomist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joannie Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joannie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work/ life balance has changed immensely overtime. When I first started my business, I said “yes” to every client, even if I worked every day. In the massage/ spa industry, it can be seasonal, so when it came time to working a lot, I felt like I had to, so I can save that money for reserves.
I am now in my 22nd year providing massage to the San Diego community and running Two Hands Wellness Events. If I’ve learned anything about work/life balance, it’s knowing what your boundaries are. This is to prevent any injury and to make sure I have time for me and don’t get overwhelmed. I currently max out at 3 hours of massage, 4 days out of the week. I take weekends off, I hired 2 assistants and now, I am able to breathe and focus on me and my family.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from other mobile wellness companies is that we are very grass roots. We don’t have an app and if a potential client has a question, they can call us and a human will answer on the other line. I also believe that the massage therapists respect the fact that a massage therapist owns the Company. I actually work with the Providers and I really enjoy it. I feel like there is a respect that goes both ways. Two Hands Wellness Events is focused on our locals in San Diego and welcome those that are visiting our beautiful city. We are a female, minority, LGBTQI+ owned company and we do our best to include everyone!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would stay and hang by the water (Coronado, La Jolla, Mission Beach, Mission Bay, Encinitas, Carlsbad) during the day and show them little unique neighborhoods at night (Little Italy, Hillcrest, North Park)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize my partner, Tricia. I think it’s important to have support by your side as you run a business because there is someone to celebrate your wins with you and a person that can comfort you on challenging days. She also has a business background so it’s fun to run some ideas by her to get another opinion.
