Meet Jesse Landers | Songwriter, Podcaster and just lover of music

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Landers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesse, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been creative since I was young. I started writing poems at 12. We had a class assignment where we had to write a 500 word essay and I hate writing essays so I wrote a 150 word poem instead.. I got an A and a local radio station heard about the poem and I got to read the poem on air. Those events led to me wanting to try and add music to my words so I asked my Papa to teach me guitar. I grew up listening to him play at get togethers and reunions so I knew he was a really good guitar player. He taught me the basic chords before he died G,C,D and after he died I took a few lessons a few years later when I decided to pick the guitar up again. That lead me to playing my songs in public, start a band, and later it led to my podcast The Georgia Songbirds. I wanted to give others a chance to showcase their musical talents

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I know there are better songwriters, singers, maybe more entertaining podcasts out there but I think what sets me apart is my absolute love of music. I have almost this stubbornness of grabbing hold of something and not letting go. I will make it work somehow. Sometimes it works for me other times it works against me but I can’t imagine not being a part of music somehow. I learned along time ago you can’t please everyone. You have to live for you. When I was younger I had a speech impediment that made me shy. I would never just start a conversation and it took some effort to get me to say more than a few words, unless it was about music or football. That stubbornness I mentioned earlier is how I push myself past my insecurities and force myself to play live or talk with a guest.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a tough one, When I’m not playing music I’m kind of a homebody. I guess depending on their tastes, we would go check out some of the local artists at spots like Madlife, Rootstock, maybe hit a few breweries along the way. Being from Georgia one place that is a must and for some reason I’ve never been, is the World of Coke. I probably would let my wife plan our activities That’s more her area of expertise
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Papa who planted the music bug in me, my Mom who was my biggest supporter, all the people who listen to the show, the other songwriters, who through their songs and stories actually inspire me, and everyone who supports the show and local artists in general.
