We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Andrews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The majority of toys sold in the United States are mass produced using materials and processes that are not helpful to the fight against climate change and also are potentially harmful to children. Most people assume that when they buy toys or baby goods that the products are entirely safe but that is not the case.

New research suggests that more than 100 chemicals found in plastic toy materials may pose possible health risks to children. It is difficult to understand what a safe product is.

Our business sells only toys that are produced ethically and with sustainable practices, usually in small batches. Many of our products are handmade wooden items produced from sustainably sourced wood. Our cotton products are made using organic crops.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I worked my entire career in communications for corporate companies and realized I wanted to do something entirely different. My passions were always environmental causes and children so an eco friendly toy business made sense. I came upon the idea when I was in Europe and learned that many cheap plastic toys are banned there by the European Union because they are believed to be unsafe for children. There were zero eco-friendly toy shops and studios in my city so I embarked on this venture.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My super-talented friend who designed the look of the brick and mortar store as well as one of the doll products. Suzanne Hill works with inspired perfectionism to make the best products possible, using recycled and eco-friendly products. Her talent and dedication are remarkable and her selfless commitment to our business cannot be overstated.
