We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffrey Love and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeffrey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk-taking is an essential, dynamic part of any business owner. Risks can cause high alertness and that keeps me on my toes and focused and in some cases white-knuckled too.

I started my pre-computer career in NYC and figured out really fast that if I didn’t get on board with using computers I wouldn’t have a career in advertising and marketing. The company I was with took a chance and bought me a mac. I didn’t know anything and really took the same chance… how could we use the new technology to make concepts, production ease, and money? It was obvious that digital was the future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was a fine artist in high school and undergraduate. I attended a professional finishing school, built an advertising portfolio, and started working right out of college. I learned print production and how to manage illustrators and photographers very early. I started as a graphic designer and work up as an assistant AD to being an art director in NYC for 8 years. I returned to Atlanta and opened AgencyLove, Advertising and Makrketing Inc. We had pretty normal name-brand clients in Atlanta at the time. It was the Olympics in 96 that started my career on a different path than traditional ad work. I could design and produce and deliver concept work for big events. Large format signage for environments and trade shows and branded support materials outside the usual box. Designing concepts to reach an audience other than ads and direct mail was exciting and led me to automotive experimental marketing in Southern California. My head was spinning with all sorts of possibilities. It was during the 2007 Toyota Tundra Outdoor Tour that noticed I was using everything I had ever learned in the arts and advertising to bring these types of marketing tours together. It was not as easy as I make it sound. Cell phones, headsets, texting, and tablets were coming out every day. and using the latest technology to reach an audience was the topic in every meeting I attended. I landed work with LG. This helped me stay on top of an industry that would become a HUGE market to be in. when social media started and I found that concepts and designs for an all-new format challenging Creating campaigns that could be tested and adjusted for effectiveness became my new normal. Companies not willing to change and understand these new ideas caused me to jump from one client to the next. The success of digital marketing was fast and fun and the results were great. I have had to be very inventive, flexible, and willing to learn new skill sets to stay in the market with younger professionals poring into the industry every year. But there is one thing I notice in myself. I can come up with good concepts and have an understanding of how to produce and maintain a brand for a future that is changing every day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the coastal towns of Georgia. Start off with Cumberland Island off the coast of GA. It’s a great way to go back to a gilded age that is gone now. We would stay 2-3 days in Saint Marys port town GA. The town has a history dating back from 16th century spainish explores and dates of cilvil war are all over the place. There are always festivals, seafood food and lcal bars for drinks and stories for a night before you take a 45 min fairy to Cumberland Island in the morning. Once on the island for the day, you are on your own to explore the ruins of Dungeness, a grand manor house and grounds owned by the Carnegie family. There are still some utility building still standing and lots of ruins. Graphic diograms to explaine what you are looking at are located all around. A cematary where. Robert E. Lee’s father Gen Henry Lee is buried. Wild turkey, deer and horses can be seen also. After roaming around Dungeness, a hike through the dunes give way to a great beach and the Atlantic Ocean. There is so much history from the past and recent history of JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette being married on the island. We would take hundred of pix and basily wear ourselves out before returning at 4:00 to the mainland where we would drive up to Savannah and stay in an inn or two and relive our days at some of the best sounthern cuisine in GA. I love the way the past is enjoyed in present day throughout these areas of GA that are so loaded with history.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutout has to go to teachers and directors that taught me and mentored me from my very early start in arts. Jane Manner, my high school art teacher. She wrestled me to the ground many times and showed me the way to listening and thinking. “There are always many ways to get the finished line”. That has been my mantra. and ” color outside the lines”. I use these every day in business and personal life. I could draw parallels from many creative directors and mentors in my past and even in the present day. My family also gets kudos because even though they didn’t know what to make of me.. did create an environment where I could spread out and grow.
