We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmyn Glam and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmyn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is necessary in life. Risks are scary because it invites the unknown, but some times the most beautiful things come from. I took the biggest risk 4 years ago, I packed everything I owned, left my family and my job of 7 years to move to San Diego. It was the best decision I ever made.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a local San Diego Drag Performer, and I say performer because I still have a hard time calling myself a “Drag Queen”. I am biologically a woman but I don’t particularly like the term “Bio Queen” as it goes against my belief that Trans women are also biologically women. I started performing with the encouragement of my Drag family, Mariam T gave me my first paid booking. Once I hit the stage for the first time I was hooked. It’s an adrenaline rush. I’m such an over thinker and I like that when I’m performing for those three to five minutes, nothing else in the world matters but that moment. I know me simply doing drag as a woman can be controversial, and I’ve definitely had some backlash, but the love and support I’ve received totally outweighs any negativity. I do this for me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A day or night out in Hillcrest is always a good time! We’d have to stop in at Urban MOs for brunch, they have the best French toast and frozen Paloma’s we’ll say hello to all my coworkers there and catch one of the amazing drag shows going on day or night. If my show “Honeymoon” that I cohost with my boyfriend Quin is happening I’d make sure they had the best seat in the house! After the show we’d stop by Number 1 on Fifth for some good socializing then hit up Uptown Tavern for my favorite drink in town, the Unicorn Mule (with Tajin rim!) we’d end the night at Rich’s where it’s always a party!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my Drag Family, The Haus of Glam, To my Mom Tina and my Drag Mother Glitz Glam for their endless love.
