We had the good fortune of connecting with Janita Mestre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janita, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance has been one of my top priorities this year. When I first started my business I would work every hour and take on every project with the mindset of “hustling”. The last year has challenged me to apply balance to my work life. My priorities and value system has changed and because of it, I am adjusting my work life to it. Simple things like turning off all work devices by 7pm and spending time taking care of myself and my family has been my top priority in work life balance.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Over the years I have discovered what I truly love. I am a photographer in Southern California and absolutely love it. My specialties are weddings/ elopements, families, engagements and my new business launch- my print shop! It was not easy at first. I had to be patient with myself and allow myself to grow into my style and preferences. I had to learn to say no and always honor my work and value. My passion behind my brand is to bring joy to anyone who experiences a session with me or to anyone who purchases from my print shop. I want my clients to look at their photos and believe in love all over again! I want my print shop customers to enjoy the image as if they were there in person!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Southern California is one of my favorite places! I would start the week off with a beach day at Tamarack beach in Carlsbad. Then we would head over to Handles ice cream to end the day. I would take my friend to Balboa Park and end the day at Sunset Cliffs for an extraordinary sunset experience! I would be sure to book an AirBnB on the beach and enjoy a delicious dinner in Little Italy. Lastly, I would take them to my all time favorite coffee shop in Southern California -The Press Espresso Coffee Roasters!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My immediate family (Parents, sister, brother), my faith and my best friends Katell, Autumn and Sidney have been my constant inspiration and rock. They encourage me, challenge and constantly support me in my creative endeavors.
