We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Fleming and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my career in a male dominated, financial industry 30 years ago was a huge factor in my decision making behind starting my own business. Thirty years ago, less than 5% of financial advisors were female. Today that number has only increased to 24%. I wanted to contribute to the footprint of working with women business owners to increase their financial confidence and financial success. As a female business owner myself, I was personally invested in this process, but women were not a target market 30 years ago and there was not a lot of support in working with successful women in this way. Today, you see a lot more marketing towards women in the financial industry, but there is still a very long way to go. Over 15 years ago, I created, developed and was and continue to be a public speaker on my financial literacy program, Kick the Fear Out of your Finances™. I saw a need to look at issues concerning money psychology. I created this course to give business owners the foundational knowledge necessary to create and sustain financial success in alignment with personal values.
At Fleming & Associates, we see a world where everyone is given the tools, education, and support needed to overcome the barriers standing between you and your lasting financial success.
So many of the barriers that stand between people and their success with money is psychological – shaped by past experiences and learned behaviors. We know that when we better understand our attitudes about money and where it stems from, the easier it becomes to overcome anything that may be standing in our way.
Our mission is simply to be a conduit for entrepreneurs’ personal financial success. We know how hard you work to create meaning and prosperity for others. We want to make sure your hard work translates into remarkable results in your personal finances.
As a business owner and the sole parent of 12 year old twins, I know the daily challenges of work life balance, managing your family affairs, raising children, running a business and creating enough space for self-care to sustain success in all of these areas and more.

When asked if getting to where she is today was easy, she would respond, “Of course not, but when you’re passionate about what you’re doing, you don’t really think about whether it’s going to be easy or difficult. I look at challenges as opportunities for growth. And, my mindset looks to creating solutions versus focussing roadblocks. My Mom asked me once, when I was sharing my goals with her, if I was afraid. My answer to her was yes, but I have to do it anyway. I was fortunate to have her support, always, and the support of wonderful mentors along the way. As the sole parent to 12 year old twins, there are always challenges going on, but I have an amazing support system of family, friends, mentors and staff who I can rely on to help when needed. It has taught me to be flexible, resilient and to ask for help. Thank you, Doug Davison, for teaching me that lesson so many years ago.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question as San Diego has so much to offer. Our family loves the water so whether we are paddle boarding, sailing, surfing or cruising on the water, you cannot go wrong. Taking the ferry from Harbor Island to Coronado for lunch and bike ride is always a fun outing. Now that Broadway San Diego and the Old Globe have begun their programs, you can take in an evening at Balboa Park then dinner at El Prado and a show. San Diego has some of the best restaurants whether you’re in Little Italy or Liberty Station, there are always museum, galleries and live music to take in. Taking a dinner picnic to Sunset Cliffs to watch the sunset is a beautiful way to end the day.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, thank you to my Mom for always supporting me and my big audacious goals. Thank you to my friend and life long mentor, Doug Davidson, for helping me set up the foundational groundwork for my business over 25 years ago. Thank you to my friend, Janice Davidson, because of your background in nutrition and innovative ground breaking work with blood cell analysis, you literally saved my life in my late 20’s. Thank you to my current Business Coach and friend, Robyn Crane, whose mission is to increase the footprint of female financial advisors to 50%. You inspire me! And, last but not least, thank you to my beautiful 12 year old twins, Bella and Kinley. You give me great joy, every single day. I am so proud of you both for the kindness, love and dedication you bring to the world. Thank you for always being supportive of your Mom. I could not do all I do, at the level I do it, without your love and cooperation. We’re the best team!
