We had the good fortune of connecting with Honeey Kay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Honeey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t really set out with the intention of starting a hair business – I simply have always cared about how my hair looked. People would always compliment me on how nice my hair looked and I always felt better about myself when my hair was done. Then I realized other people feel the same. So I decided that I wanted to help other women feel their best by making wigs and installing them. My mission is to help all women feel as beautiful as they really are.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One thing I would say separates me from others is that I’m not interested in this for the money. I genuinely enjoy doing women’s hair and seeing their face when they look in the mirror at the finish look. The boost of confidence that it gives them. I would say I’m most proud of myself for continuing my business even when I felt that I wasn’t going to be successful. Having a small business can be discouraging when you go from having so many orders one week to having zero the next. My clients are really what keep me going. Every day is a learning opportunity when you’re running a business. I would just like to say that there is no wrong way or wrong time to start. Start it when you’re ready.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank two of my closest friends, Shay and Armonie. They’ve both showed me an incredible amount of support.
