We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Arnold and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I am a complete routine and ritual person and I love having a structured schedule. As you know Covid obliterated anything that looked like a routine or schedule but I quickly put one together for myself. I love to work out in the morning so after sleeping in one day I began a morning workout routine which involved doing a Instagram Live workout three times a week and running or walking the other days, this saved me! I found a Zoom meditation class which I religiously attended three times a week at the same time. I then put together a list of all the things I wanted to do for my business but had been too busy to do before Covid. Each day I blocked off time in my day to work on these things from my list, I began setting up my weekly calendar each Sunday so that I knew each day what I was going to focus on and when. This included time for social media, time to relax with a puzzle or book and time to watch makeup videos which is my form of education. I really think these routines and structure help me accomplish my goals.. My other habits involve writing thank you notes, making my bed each morning (self respect), giving back with my time or checkbook, listening to podcast interviews of other successful female entrepreneurs, and I am big on education so I take courses on makeup artistry on a regular basis. I just started journaling every morning and it really helps me stay grounded and is a wonderful way to start my day.

I am a mobile makeup artist specializing in on-location hair and makeup services. I am known for enhancing my client’s outer beauty so their inner beauty can shine. I set myself apart by being extremely professional in the way I run my business; from the communications to the in-person service. I try to make my clients feel safe in my hands by involving them in the creative process. I like to think of it as a collaboration between my client and me. My clients love how I enhance their favorite features without making them look like they have a ton of makeup on.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Kelly Horton at Faces Plus gave me my first job in the industry so I have her to thank for that! Kelsey Long who is a prominent makeup artist in San Diego who I take makeup lessons from, she has taught me so much about contouring, blending, and bridal. I recently took a Master Beauty Business class from Tara at Breluxe Beauty in LA. I learned so much about the business side of running a successful and professional makeup artistry business. Evelyn Cell helped me redo my website which I love, she is also a business coach. And finally, I would like to thank Stefanie Mullen who has helped me with my social media for the past three years and I am proud to say I just reached 900 followers on Instagram.
