We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Hatzis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, what do you attribute your success to?
I have been in the speaking industry for over 25 years in the both the corporate and public sphere. I have enjoyed great success, opportunity and toured the world as a speaker. The game changer that sky rocketed my career, however, was becoming Less interested in trends, mentorship, focusing my messaging on my audience and fitting into niches, and choosing instead to Be 100% focused on speaking about and from MY unique experience/perspective/journey. Embracing my “too muchness” allowed me to speak and share most passionately and effortlessly on what is true for me and MAGNETIZE my perfect audience. The first speech I wrote for MYSELF (not for the audience) resulted in a viral video that reached 50 million (also birthed a book, a movement and world tour) This was a game changer!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Gosh this is SO huge…. To simplify, careers are no longer linear, mine certainly wasnt! I started off as a dancer turned journalist, became a magician (Gina the Genie!), fell into corporate training, starting a woman’s circle at home, speaker, author, blogger, podcast host, retreat leader, speaker coach and I am still evolving! I stayed true to following what lit me up, where my energy called me and was always up for taking risks and stretching myself. Every experience honed a new skill set and taught me more about staying in my Zone of Genius (my natural state) vs my Zone of Excellence (just doing something because I was good at it) People always ask “How can I become a Pro Speaker?” Often it’s because it seems exciting or glamorous and we all want to be seen. That was Never my goal. I stay focused on What I am most passionate about teaching and I use any platform that supports the bigger vision. Speaking just happens to be on of those.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Toronto is a fabulously diverse city. You can cruise along the waterfront, walk the boardwalk, visit the famous CN Tower, tour China town, Little Italy, Greektown or shop the mega Eaton’s Center. There are so many eclectic little shops, restaurants and neighbourhoods, you can never be bored. Niagara Falls is a short drive away and never disappoints! A little further north, you will find the most spectacular nature trails, lakes and waterfalls. I love my city!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hmmm… I’d have to shout out EVERY WOMAN who has dared to scribble outside the lines of convention in some way and seeded in my subconscious mind the possibility of becoming more of myself. Any woman who challenges me to rewire my limited belief about what is possible for me in some way. From Rosa Parks to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Madonna to Oprah, Gloria Steinem to Frida Khalo, Malala Yousafzai to Elizabeth Gilbert. This is what I model my work after, being a Model of Possibility for other women and men to not only dream bigger, but to dare to show up as MORE of themselves
