We had the good fortune of connecting with Gianna Buzzetta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gianna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success in the culinary industry is passion…without passion any other career I would have chosen would have become lackluster. Choosing a career I am passionate about has allowed everything I create to be full of inspiration, artistry and care. Never sending anything out of the kitchen that I do not believe in, something that I wouldnt be proud to put my name on.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love my career and that makes me extremely lucky. I have been given the ability to work a job that I am happy to do everyday, one that pushes my desire and visions to create blooming success. What sets my career path apart from others is my passion and drive. I graduated from the CIA at 19 and from then I have never stopped working. Starting as a pastry cook at restaurants, bakeries and caterers at 18, to now at 23 as the Pastry Chef of a Michelin Star restaurant, Jeune et Jolie. Along the way I have encountered the challenges of being a young female in the kitchen, as well as the typical young adult dilemmas. “Should I go out to the bar with my friends or stay home? … I have work at 5am!” And I always chose to stay home, which has allowed my career to grow so quickly, limiting any distractions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city… Animae, Chef Tara Monsod the dining experience is something you don’t find often in San Diego. Dija Mara, Chef Jason Ambacher creating a unique Indonesian menu, something you won’t find anywhere else in San Diego County.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I do not have any specific people. Every place I have worked at I have has positive and negative influences and support that have pushed me to success.
