We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Reutter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriela, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Santiago, Chile, in a family that provided unwavering love and support. My parents were always present, attending every school play, cheerleading tournament, modern dance presentation, science fair, and show jumping competition. My mom nurtured my creativity from an early age through arts and crafts, imaginative games, and vibrant school projects, while my dad instilled in me a sense of responsibility, organization, and practicality. I like to think my creative, sensitive side comes from my mom, while my structured, planner mindset comes from my dad.

Growing up, I never felt alone or unsupported. When I decided to pursue show jumping, my entire family rallied behind me. My siblings even sacrificed traditional family vacations so we could travel to competitions around the world. Their collective effort and belief in me shaped who I am today.

My upbringing taught me resilience, drive, and strength, while also fostering creativity, open-mindedness, and emotional intelligence. My parents chose the best international school in Chile to ensure I had opportunities, which gave me the foundation to leave at 18 to study in the U.S. and eventually become a professional show jumper.

If there was ever pressure to succeed, it came from within—my desire to make the most of the incredible support my parents provided and to show my gratitude. They not only allowed but fully encouraged me to follow my passion for horses, knowing it wouldn’t be easy. If you asked me who believes in me the most, I’d say without hesitation: my parents.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional show jumper and content creator, with my main passion and focus being show jumping and working with horses. I started riding at the age of 4 and knew by 8 that I wanted to dedicate my life to this sport, setting my goal to one day compete in the Olympics.

What sets me apart in this industry is my relentless curiosity and drive to learn. I’ve never been satisfied with just riding—I’ve always sought to truly understand horses and build a deeper connection with them. I constantly ask myself ‘why,’ which has not only made me a better rider but also a better horsewoman.

My content creation journey stems from this same passion for learning and sharing. Through social media, I aim to educate others by sharing the knowledge I’ve gained, while also giving back to the horses and the equestrian community. At the same time, I strive to bring joy and lightheartedness to the sport, reminding people to laugh and enjoy what they do every day.

I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come and excited about what lies ahead. My ultimate goal is to become the first Chilean woman since 1972 to compete in show jumping at the Olympics. Along the way, I’m committed to continuing to inspire, educate, and entertain fellow equestrians around the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite thing to do in San Diego is to chase sunsets! The best sunsets were at Solana Beach (dolphins included), Sunsets Cliff Boulevard, and Black’s Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my parents: Mariela Contreras & Juan Reutter, as well as my siblings: Martin Reutter and Toni Reutter.
