We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelyn Funes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evelyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a big fan of Pinterest and all these DIY ideas for parties. I did my son’s first birthday back in 2013 and realized how much work goes into creating these types of parties that you see on that platform, so my business concept started as me wanting to offer help and Decor ideas for moms that wanted to create Pinterest worthy parties on a budget. Soon after my business took a turn towards the concession Stations and that’s what grew in my community. Offering a service that not a lot of vendors were doing at the time and we would match their event colors and theme in our setup.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Business has definitely not been easy and has been a journey with Covid. Had to rebrand and reinvent how I did business. What really changed my business was me looking at my service is more as a brand that’s really how I have gotten to where I’m at today. Some of the challenges I faced was finding price ranges to fit most every day events and always having to increase prices within the last year year and a half it has been a struggle to find the right market that would value what we were offering and be able to provide a service still budget friendly for most DIY moms looking to have a fabulous event. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is not to undervalue who I am to accommodate someone else’s budget. I am for the world to know that anyone can start a business and have an idea and concept and it might not work right away but over time with persistence and dedication great things can happen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in a small town it’s very limited but on attractions but we definitely would make a camping trip for a couple days at our local lake. There is boating and hiking trails. We will also be arranging a hot air balloon ride or maybe some skydiving if they are looking for some adventure here in Perris.

GoodDay brew is a local brewery here in our city that offers different activities throughout the weekend with different food vendors to come out and support. We would also be making a trip down to wine country in Temecula for some winetasting. Living in SoCal you definitely can’t come visit without going to some of the theme parks like Knottsberry farm or definitely Disneyland.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My 10-year-old son Ethan cause me to birth my business because I am single mom and was able to work from home. Also my twin sister Patty who has helped me with a lot of the events and my older brother Wilber who invested into my business and help me buy some of my equipment when I first started doing the Concession Items.
