We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Michelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erika, how do you think about risk?
For me risk has been the motivator, that push in the back, to get things done.
Playing it safe can only take you so far. When you risk something like money, time, your feelings… that is when you do your best because there is something on the line. Example: I “have” to win because I want to make a parent happy. I have to make the investment back so I don’t lose my house.
In life we risk our feelings many times, being open with someone that can hurt us or keeping our feelings down low so they don’t have the chance to hurt us.
I risked money when I first started my online business. Invested in coaches and platforms in order to get to where I wanted to go and gave myself a timeline to make my investment back. Without that “deadline” for me it would have been like shooting at the air, no goal set.

My process fo graphic design is very different from other designers. I focus on the energy, what is that feeling that my clients want to project. That aspect serves as a mirror of my clients personality. I get super excited when a new client comes in with no idea what they like and start seeing all the peaces of the puzzle come together to reveal that the answers have always been there.
It was NOT easy niching down into working with spiritual entrepreneurs, there where many times where my brain would go into impostor mode and wonder “who do you think you are?” But as time progressed my own client where the ones who gave me the “intuitive designer” tittle. Trusting the process and being open to take risks have been the lessons I’ve learned to treasure the most.
After being a bartender for almost 10 years and graduating with two art degrees I knew that life was not meant to be spent in just one place. We are humans and are in constant growth. Comparing my journey with other designers never helped me, but trusting the process and ditching the comfort zone have been that step in the right direction.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being a military wife and mom, I don’t “hangout” like in my 20’s plus I have learned to enjoy other things in life like the outdoors. Hiking, camping and seeing the uncorrupted stars at night have become my favorite things to do while exploring each state we move into.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without my husbands support and help I know it would have taken me a lot more time to get to my goal. My clients and their trust in my work has also been a HUGE part of my success, specially their referrals.
The word of mouth is a powerful marketing ad that costs $0 and will bring in so many more clients than you might think so.
