We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Hankins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want people to say I challenged them to think bigger. Bigger than their neighborhood, bigger than their ZIP Code, bigger than their county, and even bigger than their country. I want people to see me leaving my foot prints all over the world, and realize that they can do the same. Where you come from sets no limitations on where you can go. I want people to Get out and truly see everything the world has to offer. You can go anywhere and truly be anything.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting where I am today came from nothing but creativity and Hardwork. It takes a lot to bring a dream to fruition. It was never easy and came with lots of failures. I had to challenge myself to figure out what worked and what didn’t and make sure I always kept my customers first. In this journey I’ve learned that nothing and no one is perfect, but the ability to have other people believe in you and trust you is priceless. I am most proud of the fact that I get to be a part of other peoples discovery. My product will travel with them around the world as they touch every corner they can find. I get to be part of someone’s greatest adventure and encourage them to get out and go find more. I want the world to know my brand and my story is all about exploration and discovery. Get out in the world and find yourself, even if that means traveling half way across the globe. If I can pack a bag and go carve out my piece of this world, you can too!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we’d start at my favorite place…. the airport. Next we would visit Kono’s in PB for a nice breakfast on the beach. After that I would probably take them to see some breathtaking views of the coast and the city from Cabrillo National Monument. I’d Follow this up with the city’s best Carne Asada Fries from Humberto’s (43rd). If we aren’t too tired a SD Melanin day party is the perfect hang out for good vibes and good music. And I wouldn’t let them leave San Diego without a Maverick’s Margarita and the best Lemon Pepper Wings they’ve ever had!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe everything I have to my mother. She taught me the value of hard work and dedication. No one else showed me how to “get things done” more than her. It takes a certain kind of strength to keep pushing through any challenge. From her I learned how to get up no matter how many times you get knocked down. And most of all she taught me how to be a strong black woman. Last but not least, I’d like to think my customers. The ones I know, and most of all the ones I don’t. To every stranger to ever saw my product, or my post, and believed in me enough to purchase I truly thank you. It’s crazy how people you don’t even know can believe in you and help change your life.
