We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Alba, LMFT/CEO and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks used to be a huge battle for me. I would consult with those that I trusted most, sit with it for a while (eating at me with anxiety), until I felt I was able to make a decision. I have noticed such growth since opening the business in the sense that I have learned to trust in myself and my gut feeling. I know that risks are a huge gamble but I also know that I will not grow as a person and in this business unless I take these. I have learned to listen to myself and trust that innate feeling. Once I feel that, I know that something huge and amazing is just on the other side of saying yes.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Brave Wellness Studio is a one stop shop for Holistic Healing. We offer Holistic Individual Psychotherapy, focusing on realigning mind, body and soul, and taking back control from symptoms of anxiety and depression. We also offer small class size yoga, personal yoga and corporate yoga, again offering that mental health component of empowering you to take control over negative aspects of life. Lastly, we offer workshops such as Anxiety Detox, marrying both psychotherapy and yoga aspects for total rebalance. We are a fairly new wellness studio, being open for one year. It has brought challenges, especially during COVID-19, having to close our doors and offer only virtual sessions of both therapy and yoga. This has been both a financial and personal struggle to learn new ways to continue the facilitation of healing for our clients, but has just made us more brave in tackling something new.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ohh, I love this because I LOVE my city! I think we would start our day at Sheldon’s Service Station in La Mesa with a good cup of coffee and amazing avocado toast because #SanDiego. We would then hike and tan on the beach in Torrey Pines and end the day at a local rooftop bar (The Nolan or Kettner Exchange) for dinner, drinks and a view. I live for rooftop bars and and a chilled glass of Prosecco.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends have been the biggest support system! They are such an amazing group of people that truly love, help, and support, expecting nothing in return. So many of them spent days and nights painting Brave Wellness Studio, listening to my struggles, and guiding where they could. My Uncle Mike in particular has been my biggest cheerleader, believing in me way before I believed in myself and continues to push me to grow in the business world.
