We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Angeloni and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I read and worked through The Artist Way last year and it was transformational. I began writing Morning Pages and seeking out different artistic avenues to inspire my inner child artist (like pottery and painting classes). This helped me connect with my own unique expression.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I was about 12 years old, I watched a video of a Grateful Dead performance with my Dad. He explained that “real music is when a song is never played the same way twice.” Growing up with this belief ultimately led me to seek out an art form that embraced improvisation. For me that was Jazz, blues, and soul music! Getting into a flow where you are truly feeling and trusting the unknown is what life is all about. When I am able to do that in a performance, I feel connected to everyone in the room. I began really tapping into this creative state over the past 5 years, but especially this past year when I stepped away from my secure day job to pursue performing and writing music full-time. When I come across a challenge I try to remember that being a musician is not about me – it’s about honoring something greater. I’m learning that this duty of being a “channel” can only be fulfilled by being my complete, unbridled and authentically true self.

I will be releasing my song ‘Luna’ in April and you can find my most current release ‘Dancing with the Dark’ on all streaming platforms. The music I write is inspired by nature, connection and movement. I consider it an honor to be able to make music and share it with people all over the world!

Catch me playing solo, duo or with a band at your favorite restaurants, clubs, and hotels around town. I love being the musical memory of the special events in people’s lives like weddings and birthdays, and bask in the joy of people coming together!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny you should ask, I have some friends coming in April and I’m planning our activities. First things first, I will absolutely be having a sunset beach bonfire, at La Jolla Shores or Mission Beach/Bay. I’d love to bring them to the Rady Shell and Panama 66. We will be hitting Books and Records in Banker’s Hill for some live music, delicious food, and fun cocktails. I’ll bring them to The Lafeyette which I’ve coined “the adult chuck-e-cheese” due to the vast array of opportunities for fun entertainment. Hopefully we can catch some fellow musicians playing at Lou Lou’s Club and dance the night away. Afterward I’ll take them to my favorite after hours eats – Luigi’s Pizza and/or Rudford’s Diner. Finally, no trip to San Diego is complete without a Padres game and a visit to Prohibition Lounge for late night live music!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I want to dedicate this to all the women who inspired me to raise my voice and follow my heart! I have many mentors, friends, and family members supporting me. I also have to thank the truly amazing, friendly and fun San Diego music community.
