We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Lucero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniela, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My life has changed a lot since I started my business. I am a very dedicated and committed person with what I do, so I wanted to do everything well, at school, at work and my entrepreneurship. It was very difficult to find a balance, but one day I learned that it is okay to say: “Enough!” and accept that you are tired and take the time you need to reactivate energy. And from there I try to dedicate at least 1 hour a day to my needs and tastes. I learned that rest is valuable and that life always includes body, mind, soul and spirit.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I’m a mechanical engineer! In fact, I love my career, I am really passionate about it and I am very happy to have chosen it. When I started the venture I was a student, and it was not possible for me to work because I had very long hours. So I started preparing healthy snacks for myself and from one moment to the next I started selling. My parents supported me from the first moment, at the beginning everything was slow, but as time went by, I had many clients, many orders and everything began to be real. Handmade with love became real! I chose that name, because when I started I didn’t have a mixer, I didn’t have so many molds, I didn’t have anything to make pastries and I did everything with my hands. So I devoted time and love to each dessert and each snack. Currently I am proud of myself, because it has been a long road, full of work and effort. I managed to finish my professional career, I speak 3 languages and we are learning 4! and I have an alternative pastry business
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Woow! What a good question, Tijuana and the entire region (Baja California) is full of incredible places to eat and have a good time! This summer, a very special person for me will come from Serbia. So these are some of my recommendations: In Tijuana, there is a great variety of delicious cafes and breweries. In Ensenada, without a doubt the wine route and restaurants to eat seafood. In Ensenada my favorite desserts are the ice cream parlor “Limón, Limón” and the pastry shop “Gabriela Miramontes, GM” In Tecate, I recommend that you go to the lighthouse to have a delicious michelada and eat dishes from the region! and of course the tecate bread. Overall, Baja California will not disappoint. It is a magical place, with good weather, good food and amazing people!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all, God and without a doubt my family, especially my parents. They are my rock and my main motivation to achieve my goals and my dreams. They have taught me not to give up, to take risks and learn from mistakes and obstacles that come our way. Also my best friends, especially Ruth and Melisa who have always supported my entrepreneurship and me as a person.
