We had the good fortune of connecting with Cyndi Lundeberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cyndi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started out in news in 2012 I was making $20k before taxes, no joke. My paychecks were about $600 for two weeks and that had to be split between rent, car, food, gas, etc etc. I was also on TV and had to look like I was making more than $20k a year. I started shopping on Amazon and finding dresses that were $10-$20 and looked fantastic on air. I began writing reviews for the items like “this dress is great quality !” Or “size down but this dress is great!”. People began voting my reviews as helpful and following my reviews which catapulted me to be ranked the 35th best reviewer in the world for Amazon. I now have 8800 people who follow my reviews and get an email every time I review something. This reviewing evolved into Amazon asking me to be part of their influencer program (one of the first people they asked according to them) and their amazon live program (again one of the first they asked). I now make money when people buy things I recommend- Amazon also pays me for photos. I’ve also started an Instagram that’s fully dedicated to my Amazon finds as well – Newsboozenshoes.

I still only recommend things I truly love because that’s how I make money- by recommending things that will help people ! I see myself as a way to make women feel confident no matter their budget. I remember the difference in confidence I felt when I wasn’t worried how I looked on air or worried if I spent too much on an outfit. Anyone that says you don’t perform better or feel better when you look your best is lying 🙂

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me a part is my approachability and openness to my followers ! Anytime anyone follows me I send them a message so that way if they message me again it goes right into my main inbox. I know Amazon can be daunting and there’s so many choices but that’s why I’m here to help! I love when people ask me to recreate looks from celebrities they’ve seen or ask me to help dress them for vacations or upcoming events – it’s so fun!

Where I am now with Amazon is truly a testament to my journalism career. I shot and edited my own news stories so now shooting reels or photos is second nature to me. Doing Amazon lives is also just like when I used to anchor the news.

Was it easy building an amazon and Instagram following? No. It’s not physically hard but it’s definitely time consuming but I enjoy it. I love ‘creating’ whether that be photos or videos.

I also am keenly aware every time I dress myself it’s an opportunity to make money – so I spend a lot of time selecting my outfits even for day to day. It’s a good problem to have tho.

I want the world to know there’s so many options for what you want to do! Did I ever think reviewing items on Amazon would allow me to make six figures a year ? No! But I was passionate about helping people look and feel their best on any budget. I’m just so thankful for Amazon and their team that encourages me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hover between San Diego where I grew up and Las Vegas- so I’ll tell you my itinerary for both!

If we’re in San Diego we are absolutely waking up and branching at Snooze in Hillcrest, spend a few hours walking around and going in shops. Then we’d hit Balboa Park for a walk and maybe some museums. I also love to take people for a stroll between Seaport and Downtown behind the convention center to look at the yachts. Anywhere downtown for dinner and drinks !!

If we’re in Vegas depending on the time of year – I love to take people to Red Rock Canyon to hike. If it’s winter a trip up to Mount Charleston for some snow is an absolute must !! Dinner anywhere downtown is my favorite – they have the best bars and restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband who doubles as my hype man and camera man some days !! His support in encouraging me to grow my own side business has blossomed into a wonderful extra stream of income.
