We had the good fortune of connecting with Chavali McIntosh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chavali, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to be remembered for being a believer of Christ, an advocate for diversity, empowerment , being compassionate, and determined.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
POP exists because domestic violence is not an individual problem – it’s a crisis that affects the whole community. Like a cancer, domestic violence affects the community on every level, from early childhood classrooms to corner offices and boardrooms. Through POP, we aim to foster sustainable support while providing real solutions for domestic violence survivors as well as provide advocacy and education for the community.
POP doesn’t just help women get through dangerous situations – it helps them build a new life for themselves. We anticipate launching our first home this year.. Our goal is to provide a year of transitional housing, professional counseling services, and work-force resources to reintroduce a more healed and authentic woman to society.
As of this printing I’m most proud of having established POP. This has been on my heart for quite a while. I’m excited to see what the Lord has planned for the ladies of POP! Ending a successful hairstyling business has been the hardest thing I’ve done regarding POP thus far, but I now have the time to properly devote to this worthy cause.
The journey here hasn’t been easy but I know the trials and tribulations experienced in the military and the lessons learned as an entrepreneur have prepared me for this. A few lessons learned along the way is that leadership starts with me, to advocate for what I believe in, lots of people talk and few actually follow up and, it’s easier to complain than provide a solution.
It takes a village to raise a community, and that supported community has the power to effect change on a larger scale. At POP we believe in doing the work that provides sustainable support, which ultimately supports future generations. We aim to normalize sustainable support and advocate for victims of domestic violence.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
