We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlene Plummer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlene, what do you attribute your success to?
I think one of the most important factors behind our brand is not worrying about the next person doing the same thing. Having confidence in our product. Understanding that everything happens in time. As well as being true to ourselves.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I earned a my Bachelors in Biology and worked in research for over 12 years. When the housing market crashed so did the careers in Research. I was forced to move several times in order to keep gainful employment. I learned of a second degree registered nurse program. Well actually my mom told me about the program. I graduated with honors and found gainful employment working in the Operating Room. However, something inside me said hey CHAR….you can do more!! I have always been a great cook and would often cook for friends and family. So in the middle of a Pandemic, I invested in ME!!! There have been several huge hurdles. Some of them include spending thousands of dollars to obtain necessary equipment and permits. I mean everything that is left over goes back into the business; from payroll, to equipment, more supplies, and the re-stocking of product. But, at the end of the day, I do not feel like I am working. It feels good to see something that I started take off. At times, it’s like did I really just do this! What I want the world to know is that we are building this from the ground up to provide the best product to our customers. While it is not an easy task, it is surely worth all the effort.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have to be honest. I am more of a homebody. However, I love to travel. I would probably take them to the beach, maybe the catch a couple of shows at the Casino and then dinner downtown in the Gaslamp area. We would definitely take a trip up to L.A. and finish if off in Las Vegas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The credit definitely goes not only to God who I feel provides live , purposes, and fosters our ideas, open door and blessing. I also look up to my family , even those that do not necessarily support my ideas of entrepreneurship. I do not think it was because they thought I could not do it but because of fear of being able to thrive in a tough market. As the tides began to turn, this generation especially with the housing market crisis and covid-19 have taught many of us to not rely solely on careers. We have learned to search and find our talent. In essence making something happen. I credit my sister, Cassandra Brandon, for reminding me that I can do it. Her famous saying “Burger King didn’t care that McDonald’s already had burgers. Popeyes didn’t care that there was already KFC. Basically, I can’t be worried about someone having my same product. I just have to make my product to the best of my ability and always keep a positive yet humble out look on life. I also found Inspiration from Darius Cook. He left a six figure stable Cooperate job in Human Resources. He believed in himself and became a success. While I understand my path may not be necessarily identical to his, I know that I can be successful.
