We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassie B and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassie, how does your business help the community?
Music is such a powerful tool to bring people together and create a united atmosphere. That is always my goal. When we step onto a stage, I hope to bring complete strangers together and share joy and nostalgia. I always hope that when people leave our shows, they are uplifted and encouraged to follow their dreams and pursue happiness. That’s the impact I want to have.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I graduated high school, I thought I was going to move to LA and audition to be a back up dancer or some famous person. I went to a few auditions and realized that was not the path for me. It left me a little bit lost. Then, I decided to go to hair school, and get my cosmetology license. When I started school, I was so excited to actually enjoy being in school! That was never the case before. Being a hairstylist has created so much opportunity for me. It’s not an easy business to start and keep running. Over the years I learned so much about professionalism and connection with my clients. They are so supportive of me, if I ever need to move an appointment because I have a show, they are always flexible and excited for me to do my singing career. It has been a beautiful way to spend my week days. I get to create, and use my gifts in a hands on manner. I also get to spend time with precious people that I love!

After a few years of building my hair business I decided to get back into performing a little bit. That’s when I auditioned for a show at SeaWorld San Diego. It was a show called Madagascar live. It was based on the Madagascar movies and it had costume characters, dancers, and a live band. I was cast as a singer, and that’s where I met my husband Ryan. He was cast as the bass player for the show. We did that show for almost 2 years. We were sadly laid off a few weeks before Christmas in 2014. That’s when Ryan looked at me and said let’s make our own band ! Long story short, we did! We decided to create a top 40s cover band. it’s almost been 10 years now and we have come so far from where we started. We have expanded our repertoire to cover specific genres and themes. We have a Star Wars themed show called the Millennial Falcons. We also have a 90s show focusing on our favorite songs from that decade. And our latest production is a Taylor Swift tribute show called Dream Like Taylor. This one has really challenged us and brought us to a new level. It has been so much fun and I love performing Swifie fans. We did this tribute a little differently than most. I am not impersonating Taylor Swift. Instead, we decided to create a dream on stage. Where I get to dream what it would be like to step into Taylor Swift’s shoes, and I invite the audience to do the same.It is a really magical experience every time we perform it.

We started out just wanting to create work for ourselves. We worked really hard and paid our dues.. Now we find ourselves in this really exciting place of honing in on our message and designing our brand, and the future we want for it. My message to others, is the message I try to tell myself…. Follow your dreams. Do what makes you happy and whole. Allow your gifts to carry you, and allow you to bring joy to the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh goodness! Because I’ve always been an entertainer… a lot of places you would think to go in SD happen to be where I work!
My favorite place to hang out is actually the La Mesa Village. It’s more so the fact that I grew up there, and it’s just special place in my heart. But it’s so cute and there are tons of little shops and restaurants that you can walk around and visit. I always like to show people around there.
The next place would be one of our main venues that we perform at, Moonshine Flats. It is a country honkytonk bar and it is so much fun! You can learn to line dance, see live band, and dance when the DJ comes on. There’s a little something for everybody . Another place you would normally take visitors. Is the San Diego zoo or SeaWorld. I have worked at both parks and they are so great!
You could also get tickets to a baseball game to see the San Diego Padres! We are at the Padres house band and we play every Saturday home game throughout the season! Petco Park is a beautiful stadium and so much to offer.
As far as eating girls pretty much any Mexican food restaurant will do the trick. It’s hard to go wrong on that in San Diego. I also absolutely love going to the Embarcadero and sitting at a restaurant looking over the water. San Diego really has the best views and weather to enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing if it wasn’t for my husband, Ryan kilpatrick. He is my band manager and my bass player. He is really the driving force behind our music career together. I am so thankful for his attitude, and his “go get em” mindset. He is always looking for new opportunities for us, and executing making them happen. We make a great team, and I couldn’t do it with out him. We are having the time of our lives through music, together.

Another shout out has to be to my Mommy, Mary Bowerman. She has truly always been my biggest fan, and she has sacrificed so much over the years to make it so I could pursue what I love. I learned my work ethic from her, and I am so thankful for her never ending love and support. There is something so special about our bond, and it has allowed me to dream big for myself.
