We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Destacamento and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carol, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is definitely my customers. I could have the best website, the best marketing team and top quality products but if I don’t have satisfied customers, then I don’t have a business. It’s important to me that my customers not only LOVE my products, they keep coming back for more. It’s always on the forefront of my mind every time I create my art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been creative. I love making things with my hands and I learn by doing. I decided to take my crafting to the next level when I realized that I love what I do and I wanted others to have that same sense of joy when they purchased a piece from me. Since I started in 2018, I continue to strengthen and develop my skills and am always on a journey towards progress. The hardest part and biggest hurdle is that my role consists of ALL of the hats: designer, creator, marketer, photographer, accountant…everything that goes into running a successful business.

Resin art is quickly gaining popularity and even more so the ocean wave art. Being a SoCal girl, born and raised and living most of my younger years near the beach, I’ve always enjoyed watersports both above and below the ocean’s surface. I’m always in awe of the ocean and respect its raw power and am intrigued by all of the creatures living in it. The smells, textures, and sounds of the beach are calming to me and I want my wave art to bring that kind of zen to all who own one of my pieces.

What’s my favorite thing? When a customer is drawn in by my waves and comments that they feel like they are at the beach when they look at my art. Together we share in appreciating the ocean’s majesty and they get to enjoy that feeling every time they see my art in their home. That warms my heart like the sunshine on my face!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week in San Diego? There’s so much to do! Of course you need to go to the beach! No matter what time of year it is, every season holds its own charms. La Jolla Cove is a MUST! One of my favorite snorkeling and dive spots, there is so much life teeming below the surface and the curious seals swimming around you but staying cautiously distant are always a treat. If you’d rather be on the surface, all over Mission Bay is a great place for paddle boarding. Not to mention you’ve got the boardwalks to do a little roller skating if dry land is more your thing.

If the beach isn’t your vibe, you’re just a short trip up to Julian and into Cuyamaca for some hiking or even a little further out to Anza Borrego desert. Depending on the season, you might catch a beautiful desert bloom in the Spring or enjoy a slice of fresh Julian apple pie and hot cider in the cooler months.

When you’re hungry you can’t go wrong with any of the restaurants in Hillcrest. It’s a foodies dream and there’s so much to choose from! My San Diego favorites? Chopstix on Convoy, Andres on Morena Blvd, Royal Mandarin in South Bay for their ‘crack wings’ (if you know, you know), Flemings Steakhouse in La Jolla, and Old Spaghetti Factory in downtown. If you want to travel a bit north, Mariscos Pacifico is my fave Mexican in Fallbrook.

My best recommendation? Explore! Explore! Explore!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Family is everything! The encouragement and support I get from them drives me to succeed…not only for myself but for them as well. I strive to always model excellence in everything I do…something that’s extremely important when raising my daughters into strong and capable women. Although there have been some sacrifices, my husband and my children have been nothing but supportive and are my greatest fans. I love them to the moon and back for everything they continue to do that contributes to my growth and success!

Additionally, I found my tribe in Girls Day Out Market. This duo, Amanda Duvall and Chansea Skousen, continue to put on amazing events that have helped me to not only grow my business, but to get plugged in with many other Boss Babes encouraging and supporting one another. That’s huge in a world where everyone is so competitive with one another!
