We had the good fortune of connecting with Byron Mignanelli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Byron, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Passion. High quality wines and always learning. Having an open mind, learning from others and combining that with the lessons we’ve learned along the way has allowed us to prosper.
What should our readers know about your business?
Founded in 2010 – Mignanelli Family Wines – creates world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Grig. From California to Oregon we partner with some of the best wine growers on the coast. Wines are consistently rated 90+ Mignanelli Family Wines, has been called the best valued Pinot Noir in the USA **PinotFile 2018*. Like many smaller wineries restaurants were a large piece of our on-premise business, we’d had to modify that strategy and focus on DTC. We also taken this time as an opportunity to expand our retail footprint – updated packaging and everyday prices. You can find us at over 100 retail locations in California including many in San Diego.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Summer or Fall – morning surf (Sunset Cliffs) followed by Nico’s breakfast burritos in OB (nothing better!). Winter or spring – hike or beach walk followed by the same, Nico’s breakfast burrito. Head our for some fishing or lobster diving depending on seasons. If you don’t get wet, you’re not really visiting San Diego. We’re all about the water. After we catch and release head for some fish tacos at South Beach or Mikes Taco Shop. Once we’re full head on down to 3rd corner – great selection of wines (especially unique whites) and perfect for post lunch enjoyment. Dinner – enjoy the sunset and then Market in Del Mar – perennial favorite. This place has been doing it for years. Great food, great wine. Surf, hike, eat, fish and enjoy all the things are great city offers.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife and her constant support of my wife. Pursuing a business that based 600 miles north has taken it’s toll but we’ve managed for 10 years. She also doubles as compliance, counsel & leads our tasting panel 🙂
