We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Packard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a model I not only am passionate about art and fashion, but also raising awareness about domestic violence & dating violence in our country. As a survivor of an abusive relationship, I feel it is my purpose to use my platform to share my truth by breaking my silence against domestic violence & dating violence. I feel it is imperative I share my journey in order to raise awareness and educate our youth so that they have the tools necessary to recognize abusive traits before falling victim to the abusers control.

You can find my ‘Dear Future Daughter’ series through my website under the publications tab at www.brookepackard.myportfolio.com to learn more about some of my past and what to look out for. Together we can make a difference on this epidemic that often goes unheard and unnoticed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As models, we portray a vision and are the live art ourselves. I am very grateful and blessed to do what I love and portray mine and others visions and creative directions. Where I am today is very different from where I started. I got to where I am today by hustling non-stop.

When I started modeling, I was in college. I managed to juggle full time college, a part time job and traveling to NYC 1-3 times a month for 4 years. Now, I am blessed living in San Diego, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree of both Design Management & Sociology with a minor in Business Management. There were many struggles and obstacles along the way. I have learned that you are the only person standing in your way. If you want to make it work, you have to not only want it bad enough, but believe in yourself and lose the blaming mentality. Create your own path of success on your terms and roll with the punches life throws at you.

With that being said, I applied and conquered. I now have had multiple magazine publications including but not limited to 4 covers for the likes of Malvie and Style Cruze magazine. I managed to book myself well over 50+ runway shows in Washington D.C., NYC and Los Angeles for DCFW, NYFW and LAFW. This includes walking for NYFW The Shows. All of my bookings have been booked through my own due diligence by networking and making connections in the industry.

I am incredibly proud of myself and have no intention of letting up any time soon. If you or someone you know is looking for a model or influencer, please refer them to my website at www.brookepackard.myportfolio.com where they can view my portfolio of work and contact me directly through the contact page.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have been living in San Diego for about a year now and am still learning about some of the amazing treasures San Diego has to offer. However, if you want a crazy night out on the town, head to the Gaslamp Quarter downtown where you’ll be sure to find some amazing restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. If you are wanting a more relaxed vibe, head to either La Jolla or Encinitas. They both offer great ambience specific to their own with a good mix of different people. If you are itching for a hike, Torrey Pines Reserve is great. Then of course, you can’t forget the beaches. Head to La Jolla Cove to snorkel, kayak and see the marine life like the leopard sharks! Or, head to PB or Mission Bay for an eclectic crowd along the boardwalk that will never fail to entertain. If you want something more relaxing and family friendly, head to either Fletchers Cove or Moonlight Beach where you’ll sometimes find live music and volleyball.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank and recognize my friends and family that have supported me throughout not only my modeling career but also my personal life. I took many different paths and had many different experiences that helped me develop into the woman I am today and find my career path. That includes the good and the bad. Some things I have been through, I would never wish upon anyone but I am grateful for how it has helped me grow as an individual.

I want to thank all the hair and makeup artists, photographers and stylists who have continued to show their support whether I have worked with them personally or not.

I also want to give thanks and recognition to some specific individuals and organizations.
Thom Brodeur, the Queen Beauty USA pageant organization, my parents, LAWS, loveisrespect.org and BTSADV.

One last important shout out goes to all the survivors and current victims of domestic violence & dating violence. You ARE enough. Love is RESPECT. You are NOT alone. If you suspect you or a loved one is victim to domestic violence or dating violence, I urge you to seek help through one or more of the following: www.loveisrespect.org www.breakthesilencedv.org call the national domestic violence hotline at 1.800.799.SAFE (7233)
