We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Clinebell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
If you believe in your idea or project put your head down and get to it. Talking about it makes it take longer.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a person that probably has too many hobbies or ideas as a creative. Some days are filled just with graphic design or video edits for Sharp HealthCare mainly. When I am not working on my day gig I could be writing lyrics for the band I play in called The KABBs. The pass few months this has been my side gig working on putting the layout and design together for the vinyl and a video for our first single. We just got the vinyl at the end of April and we had a release show at Casbah scheduled in May but it was canceled due to the pandemic. We are lucky that we have had great support on Bandcamp since we released it and have done really well selling vinyl and digital downloads. You can check the new tunes out at: thekabbs.com and buy the record at: https://thekabbs.bandcamp.com/album/the-kabbs I want to shoutout Mike Kamoo for the recording at Earthling Studios and Rafter Roberts for doing the master. We have been wanting to do put a full length out for a long time. Also, this features my collage and design work on the album. The guys in the band did a ton as well. The band is Kyle Whatley on guitar and vocals, Ryan Combs on bass and vocals (Desert Skies and I Don’t Want To be Your Man), T.S. Ward on drums and myself on vocals and tamborine.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Probably start out with an ice coffee from Santos or Influx in North Park. I like to take a walk in the morning around Bird Park in the morning to get the day started. After that around lunch time head on down to Lola 55 for a fish taco, carnitas taco and a mezcal marg. My fiance and I been really into going to Liberty Public Market for a couple snacks from Paraná Empanadas Argentinas. They are so good. Head back to North Park for a day beer at Modern Times Flavordome. Everyone that is into craft beer loves Modern Times. You really can’t beat it. Do a little walk from there up to Cantina Mayahuel for another mezcal marg from those guys with a side of the guac and chips. Depending the time head over to Tiger!Tiger! for a crafty beverage and then Bar Pink, Whistle Stop or Casbah if we know someone playing a show. Those are my favorite venues for live shows.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s been such a weird time for everyone I think with dealing with COVID-19 I can’t really say just one person. I got engaged right before the lockdown to my fiancé Sarah Sanaee. She has been great thru all of this and we both are so happy that we got engaged right before. It’s honestly a true test with both of us working, cooking every meal together and taking turns getting groceries. We both are fortunate to have our main jobs as well. I still work for Sharp HealthCare doing Graphic Design and video work. She is still working on her shop (Gypsy Eyes) selling vintage and her clothing designs. We both dealt with the 2008 recession so to be where we are at currently we can’t complain. She is my rock and has helped with being locked in our house. Also, with all the protests going on about injustice in the United States she has been working on donating and I have got involved in donating and promoting artists that are creating items to donate so we are pretty involved with doing what we can at this time. We all have a voice and need to bring up these issues on our platforms.
