We had the good fortune of connecting with Blue Wesley Brand Content Consultant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blue Wesley, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
This is a big one. It’s so important to feed your soul with adventure, your brain with visual and thought provoking stimuli, and your body with movement, blood flow, and energy to your cells. Can you do all of this from sitting behind a desk? No way. You have to get outside, SEE, DO, EXPERIENCE. The interesting thing is that it’s been proven that you will be more productive on your daily “work” if you make time for “life” activities. As a business owner and freelance professional I can attest to this study. The more you balance, the more success you will have. Feeling stagnant? Reignite old passions , learn new strategies on activities you currently do and decide which ones just aren’t stimulating you anymore. Keep the stoke alive. Always remember the glass is half full and you are lucky to just be alive! If you were to think of your last day on earth, what would you do? Probably not tasks on a computer ; )
What should our readers know about your business?
Our San Diego based creative agency: Polarized Studios, is a content-based consulting and production firm developing custom photo + video content libraries in the product lifestyle, recreation, and travel industry for large brands as well as small businesses. Our process is unique because we take a full scale look into a brand’s history, current content strategy and develop a game plan for what’s essential to further growth. All of our content is made in house utilizing a curated selection of talent including high end models and regular every day people. Our team shoots in some of California’s most amazing location as well as exotic travel destinations around the world. Im most proud of the trust our clients have in our process. It’s amazing to see the transformation from when we first start with a client to how confident and excited they are about having amazing content post project. We started creating content pre-instagram, about 10 years ago shooting magazine covers for an Orange County-based lifestyle magazine working with major athletes like baseball player Mike Trout, and surf icon Rob Machado. We developed a passion for capturing humans in an activity, I.e. lifestyle photography. As our skills and passions grew, we naturally started teaming up with brands needing to show the essence of their brand voice and or use of product. While the transition made sense, it was a lot of work to get to where we are now. The most important thing is to stay persistent and don’t forget about the power of people. Make personal relationships and invest in the people around you. Get to know people in the community and learn about businesses first hand, it will eventually pay off.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While I’m not naturally gifted in waking up at sunrise ; ) Id start with an early morning surf. Then to La Perla in Pacific Beach for the Machaca breakfast burrito (favorite burrito in all of SD), another surf and then to Brazilian Bowls for an amazing brim-filling real-deal açaí bowl (they import the açaí from Brazil and is family owned!). We’d then do a bike ride up the La Jolla coast scoping out all of the waves and checking out the cove for a few minutes. If it was summer, for sure an underwater adventure in the marine reserve with the leopard sharks, guitar fish, rays, and turtles. A hike at Razor Point at Torrey Pines State Beach to finish the coastal filled day and soak in the sunset. Dinner & drinks in Little Italy to follow and outdoor movie on projector screen in my front yard with a fire pit and bear paw boots on. Feeling toasty yet?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my English teacher who forced me to apply to University of Hawaii my junior year of high school. It forced me to get out of my hometown at 18, and experience something different, something I wasn’t used to, and definitely taught me some important things in life. Its so cool when some gives you a nudge as a young person, and you start to understand why as you get a little older!
