We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Thomason and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I feel I have done as a parent and the impact that has on my children is to raise them up with all that I do in love. I smother them with affection. Why? In a world for especially boys, society says that boys/men can’t be vulnerable. I believe the opposite to be true. Above all, I love them. I raise two boys, an 8 and 5 year old. My 5 year old is a child with special needs and this has impacted my entire identity as a Mother.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, I am set apart because I don’t feel that I can truly associate with one form of art. I actually think a lot of artists and creatives feel this way. It is kind of a way of life. Professionally, I got to where I am in my photography career with a lot of sacrifice. In 2018 my world stopped when I was diagnosed with cancer. A year later, my son was diagnosed with Autism. The last 5 years have been head deep in healing both my son and I. The weight of all of it put my life and everything that I thought was important on hold. It put my career on hold. My passions on hold. Music, songwriting, acting, dancing, painting, all of it. The one that I call “my job” that I have made a career out of is and has always been photography. It’s the one thing I will always come back to, income or not. The challenges and cards I’ve been dealt with in life have pushed me to become better and that’s drawn from the strength God gives me to rise up and keep going. I am always learning and always growing in this field of art. I am a photographer. A creative. An artist.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting in the area, I would make it a week long beach trip. One long week of swim, surf, skating, and martinis on the strip. For me, I love to check out the best hiking spots and cool off with a dip in the ocean. SanDiego is the best for that. Also, indoor rock climbing and skate parks are my jam. When in Carlsbad, check out The Compass and snag yourself some fish tacos.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my husband, my children and some of my best girlfriends (they know who they are.) My go to support group. They hold me accountable and have ridden with me in my journey, no questions asked. I wouldn’t be here without them. To my children…everything Mommy does is for you and to give you the best life.
