We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Peterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becky, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Being a creative thinker, ideas are constantly coming to me. Starting my own business isn’t the difficult part. The biggest challenge is choosing which idea to move forward with at the time, and from where the funds will come.

I greatly desire to have a flexible schedule, not feel forced to stay in one spot, and have freedom with my time.

Creative ideas are neither generated nor do they arrive on a predictable time frame.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m the baby of the family, so I’ve always had to fight through adversity in order to achieve and overcome. It’s in my nature, my core being, to strive for excellence. Push; push harder, push through, push others. Encourage. Academics were always enforced. There was no question; I was going to college.

In High School I played Varsity sports; 3 sports all 4 years. That rigorous and exhaustive competition shaped me, without a doubt. I attended private school from K-12, then 2 years at community college, transferred to SDSU, and graduated with a B.A. There were no breaks, but seeing the consistency and hard work pay off was/is undeniably rewarding; and college degrees are always valuable.

I’m also a dual licensed Cosmetologist and Barber. I went back to school post-divorce and whilst co-parenting. Like, really?! lol

Everyone always asks “what are you gonna do with that?” … a college degree, a certificate, a beauty license, etc. it’s ok not to know or have an answer. Trust that your achievements and accolades will fall into place perfectly for your own wonderful life.

You have dreams. Do not ignore them.

I love being a light in someone’s day. A smile. A laugh. I love to laugh.
Nothing is ever easy. Anything and everything worth having requires work.
Life ends when your body stops moving, so keep going. Stay curious. Seek out new discoveries and share them with others. Positivity will change your whole day. The Bible is a Living Book. Everyone’s story and existence matters. Happiness isn’t the most important. Forgive yourself and others. Kindness. Everyone has had some type of traumatic experience. Everything works out for God’s goodness. And He always wins. Believe.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re getting coffee first, a little snack, heading straight to the Embarcadero/waterfront, driving through downtown and by the airport. I love the breeze by the water, so after driving by mission and pacific beach, we’re heading north through La Jolla and up the 101.

Julian, Big Bear, and Borrego Springs are special. It all depends on which direction we’re heading at the moment.

Coffee shops depend on what time of day. I always want Mujer Divina, but they’re closed in the evening. Ziggi’s black iced tea is the best but it’s reserved for a trip to Bates Nut Farm. Por Vida and Cafe Moto are perfect for a morning to school. Selva Coffee is a jungle adventure. Azucar is a must-have in Ocean Beach. Starbucks on Rosecrans and Mission Gorge have the square ice.

Pit Stop pizza has drive-thru! I didn’t visit Woodstock’s pizza until I was an SDSU alumna. Fernside slushees. Communal coffee. Sun Diego in Carlsbad.

Omg the lists go on and on. I’m the friend who makes a trip to the grocery store a adventure. The late night CVS trips are irreplaceable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would never claim to be self-made. That’s ridiculous. Impossible. We all receive help; known or unknown. Looking back, I’ve taken a lot of time to reflect on my life, and I am grateful for every person’s contribution. It starts with God, alpha and omega. My parents were/are extremely supportive, always providing any and everything I needed. They didn’t attend university, but they were blessed to encourage me to go to college while they both worked. My mom is the wind beneath my wings, and my dad the greatest dad a girl could ever have. I miss him every day since he died Halloween 2019. My daughter has made me brave in a way I never was before she was born. Now 16, she is an inspiration and motivation for me to show her the way how we both can and will accomplish anything we desire. She’s my little bestie roadtripping coffee buddy, and an everyday source of love and support. Buying my first motorcycle while separating from my marriage introduced me to a whole new world, where I met my greatest friends and led me to an amazing man; he has invested in me emotionally and financially, spending countless hours with me over the past 4 years, boosting my confidence and fueling my motivation to continue driving for excellence. Salon life led me to my barber apprentice, and she is a joy and light like none other. An angel from heaven. I love them all.

I don’t believe in coincidences, so I know God has His hand in my life, and every day my eyes are opened more to His blessings. I am humbled and grateful.
