We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Martins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“You don’t set out to build a wall. You don’t say ‘I’m going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever been built.’ You don’t start there. You say, ‘I’m going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid.’ You do that every single day. And soon you have a wall.” – Will Smith

This quote has meant a lot to me for a very long time. It highlights the importance (and the necessity) of focusing on one step at a time, without getting overwhelmed by the end goal. Working with clients over the years, I’ve noticed how caught up we tend to get in the things we ultimately wish to achieve, and we forget to do the best with the small but significant tasks we have at hand. Chasing fitness and health goals is about the desire to lay each individual brick as perfectly as we can, because that’s all we can control: the here and the now.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Having been in the fitness industry for the better part of the last decade, I’ve gone through different stages in my career that have led me to where I am today. Within the last few years, my passion for helping women conquer their health and fitness grew significantly as I’ve also had to learn how to battle my own health issues. I’ve been grateful to have experienced different sides of the industry, and to have learned something from each stage along the years. Getting to this point was anything but easy, but I’ve been lucky to always have various resources, inspiration, and community support on my side. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to embrace those who are on a similar journey as you, and learn from their successes as well as their mistakes.
As for my brand, I hope to keep inspiring and helping women reclaim their health and build a body they’re proud to call home, without falling victim to quick-fix mindsets or fad diets. I believe knowledge is essential in embracing fitness and health as a true lifestyle, and I’m proud to be in the position to help and educate women make choices that better align with their health goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them for a hiking trip at the Switzer Falls Trail, and some day-time shopping in Old Town Pasadena.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and trust of every client that I’ve had the opportunity of working with to this point. I also have had a lot of help and encouragement from colleagues in the industry, and I’m thankful for every meaningful interaction that’s got me to this point today.
