We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Pagliuso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was a giant leap of faith….I really had no idea what I was doing when it came to starting or running a business. I had previously worked for a company named Jungle Tribe shipping orders, doing stock, organizing photo shoots and working on their social media. I loved it but I decided id be moving to Australia part time to be with my then boyfriend. I didnt have any friends in Aus and a lot of down time so I decided id start my own online shop. It was horribly scary and expensive to get things off the ground but very freeing and exciting at the same time. I finally had something that was my own!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My apparel company came from a long time love for Vampires and generally entertainment. I worked at clubs in Los Angeles and for music festivals as a performer and creative director and that eventually lead me to hosting and becoming a part of a bigger Vampire community in Hollywood. It made sense that if I was going to start a small online shop that it would go along with this side of my life….and so Straight Outta The Coffin was born! My mom always said the vampire thing would be just a phase haha now it plays an even bigger part of my every day life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh this is a tough one….theres soooo much to do in Los Angeles (normally). Id definitely recommend the hiking trails and griffith park to check out the old Bat Man cave or the ruins of the old LA Zoo. After that a stop at Hollywood Forever Cemetery where you can find the grave of Vampira and other celebrities, or catch a late night movie projected on one of the buildings. For restaurants id say: Perch Nice Guy Toca Madera Kiwami Saddle Peak Lodge Dan Tanas To grab a fancy drink Delilas or Harriets. Bar Sinister is also a must or Boardners which is attached. The ribs are amazing here and Wednesdays is the Vampire Lounge. If entertainment has started back up id also recommend checking to see what bands or DJs are in town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe everything to the boys at Jungle Tribe. Working for them really gave me a good foundation of how a small business should be ran. They’ve continued to be super supportive of me and my endeavors.
