We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela & Michael Canady and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela & Michael, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
We help people to “Step into Authentic Spirit Connection.”.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Spirit Rising started off with Angela just doing Reiki at a local crystal shop in 2014. After his spiritual awakening, my husband, Michael, and I went through Shamanic training and initiation in 2017 with Anita Scott. We started selling a few herbs & shamanic snuffs online & at local events. In the spring of 2020, the world totally changed. We suddenly didn’t have regular jobs to go to. We could meditate, garden and go hiking more. Our online sales skyrocketed! As soon as the local flea & market opened up again, we opened a booth and sold there almost every weekend for a year.
We learned a lot from this, including the need to shift our focus to our niche. Our target market is not people looking for old stuff and cheap produce. Its people like us, beings who are more focused on personal and spiritual growth than anything else. I decided to start scheduling us at larger events. If it was something we thought looked fun or interesting, we went!
In the meantime, I (Angela) studied more in herbalism and got certified in Theta Healing & Journey Dance. Michael dove deeper into Shamanic cleansing & transmutation and had me attune him to all Reiki degrees. We both got our minister’s license. We purchased and moved into a travel trailer full time so that we could see the country as we worked. We had hitchhiked halfway across the US when we were young, and now that we were suddenly done raising children, we wanted to travel again, but with our home & shop! We got passports so that we can go to Peru & Canada, to the lands of our ancestors and guides.
In November 2021 we attended our second spirit drum creation workshop with Pathdrummer, an event that would change our lives in an unimaginable way, beyond our wildest dreams!!! Michael had a brilliant idea right after that, what if the they taught us how to facilitate the drum creation workshops? Well, if you don’t ask, the answer is always no, so we asked! Even though we knew the question was ridiculous, they said YES! In May 2022 the amazing Thom & Judy (Pathdrummer) taught us everything they could think of about drum building, shared their supplier information with us, and we were certified as professional Spirit Drum Creation Workshop facilitators!
In 2021 we went to Georgia to dig up some rocks at a mine, and decided we want to do that so much more! In the last two years we’ve driven to Arizona and North Carolina and stopped everywhere in between. We’re scheduling drum creation workshops all over the world! We have them coming up in New York, Costa Rica, North Carolina, Florida, and Bali!
The biggest lessons in all of this were to follow our passion, and trust Spirit to provide! We’re so honored to be able to bring our mobile metaphysical market & apothecary to people! Now we also get to help them give birth to amazing Spirit Drums! The drums have been changing us and our lives since the first time I had body drumming done on me, as part of my Reiki Master training in 2016.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our current base camp is in Leesburg, FL. One of our favorite things to do it take our spirit drums for walks at PEAR park in Okahumpka. There is a butterfly pavilion there with AMAZING acoustics for chanting, drumming and meditating. Then we would go get some lunch and cool off at our favorite Mexican restaurant, San Jose’s. We’d have a fire at the campsite if it was cool out and walk around in the woods in the backyard.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to honor our late son Chris. When he died suddenly at 17 years old, he changed our lives completely. Through that tragedy, we were reborn into who we are today. Thank you to our families who think we’re wierd but support us anyway! Much gratitude also goes to our Spirit Drum mentors, Thom and Judy Danbridge of Pathdrummer, our Shamanic Maestra, Anita Scott who helped us come from the brink of suicide after Chris’s death and taught us to see the world in gods eyes and Wayne Blanchette, for introducing me to body drumming!
