We had the good fortune of connecting with Anais Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anais, how do you think about risk?
I feel like risk-taking plays a huge role in how you evolve in life. When taking a risk it leads to new opportunities, greater success, and the willingness to take a chance. I’ve always been eager for new opportunities, which played a big role in starting my business. I worked several 9 to 5 jobs where there was no room to grow or learn new skills, I wanted more for myself so in 2021 I took the path of becoming my own boss and leap into an industry that I had no clue about. I enrolled myself into Esthetician school and as soon as I became licensed I was eager to start my new career path. I continue to strive for more as the years go on and as my business flourishes. It’s still unreal to me that I took one big risk, and it opened up so many doors for me. I’ve learned that it is necessary to put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to thrive. Reflecting back to when I first started my business which will be three years this August 2024, I never dreamt I would have accomplished so much in such a short time frame. I am extremely proud of myself for being so driven, it’s a constant reminder to keep the momentum going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The Beauty Escape was created in 2021
I started off from a small corner of my house in August of 2021, with no idea where this was going to lead. I am proud to say that my clientele grew quickly and by March of 2022, I had moved into my first room in a suite that I shared with other estheticians. During that time I faced a lot of new challenges, like learning how to build relationships with my clients, how to keep clients coming back, and figuring out policies so that I didn’t get taken advantage of. I grew tremendously as time went on, in December of 2023 I moved out of that shared suite and got my own suite which is where I am currently.
The main thing that I feel sets me apart from others is my passion for what I do. It is extremely important to me that my clients feel safe and comfortable when they come in for a service. Ive created a safe space for them, when they come in I want them to feel like it’s a break away from any stress and they can just relax and focus on their self-care service. Over the years Ive bonded with several of my clients and they’ve expressed how genuine I am and how they enjoy the environment I provide.
I’d like to say I’m most proud of being such a young passionate Latina business owner, who has created an environment where clients feel no judgment. The services I provide boost my client’s confidence and that has helped me build loyal clients.
I want the world to know that anyone can accomplish anything you set your mind to, failure and hiccups will happen along the way but don’t let it discourage you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is known for amazing weather, I personally spend a lot of time at the beach Coronado specifically. La Jolla beaches are beautiful as well and have hidden hikes that have breathtaking views. I am a huge foodie, we do have amazing food spots everywhere from cafes to seafood places. And our Mexican food is some of the best, my favorite Mexican restaurant Is Colima’s Mexican Grill off of University. Its a must try!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my family, from the start they have always supported my vision and always were proud of me with the smallest milestones I’ve accomplished over the years. From a young age, I caught sight of the ambition my dad and brother have when they do something they enjoy, which is where my ambition stemmed from. My dad has always taught me that I have to work hard for the things I want in this life, nothing will just be handed to me. His work ethic has taught me not to give up, to be open to change and not to be afraid of failure. My brother has always been someone in my life who pushes me out of my comfort zone, for example as a kid he taught how to ride a bike, dirt bike, and many more things that helped me learn how to shift my fear into confidence. I’ve applied this in my everyday life and I’ve become more courageous because of it, and I get through hurdles effortlessly. Without my parents, I wouldn’t be as strong-willed so I’m very thankful for them.
