We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelie Ferris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amelie, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I remember this so clearly. I was walking around the kitchen and this idea (out of nowhere, but not really) came into my head “host retreats for pregnant women.” When the download came I froze and felt a full body chill and mentally said “ok” A few days before that I enrolled into a year long mastermind knowing that I wanted to offer something to the world but didn’t know what that was quite yet. I knew that if I was to birth something I would want a lot of support because at that time our second born was only a couple of months old. When I would share my birth story with friends and family, I would always get feedback that when they had kids they’d want me to be a part of it. That thought always intimidated me because I wasn’t a doula, or midwife, or certified in anything. But I realized that didn’t matter to them at all, it was the experience and the transformation I went through that was so healing. So that’s why I believe it’s so important to create a space where women of all experiences can be held during this time in their lives.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
the motHER sanctuary is about women reclaiming their power, radiance and grace – from maidens to mothers. I believe that this ‘rememberance’ can be applied to all areas of our lives and is especially important as we heal ourselves and our future generations. This is the work I’m most excited to bring into the world. Coming to this calling was not easy, I had to deconstruct a lot of old beliefs and let go of the guilt of having 2 dream pregnancies and home births and worried that women would be so mad if they didn’t have that experience too. What I realized was that I am not responsible for how everything turns out, no one is in control of that. This work is about removing the old wounds and stories to make space for the magic to come in and by doing that, we surrender to a whole other experience of transformation and power. The most important thing I’ve learned along the way is to always do it your way. You make the rules, you get to decide what is true for you, you have that much power, we just have to remember it. It’s already inside of you.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m extremely grateful for the love and support from my partner, Matt, he’s always been my earth and believed in me. We’ve created a beautiful family and life together that is beyond what I thought was possible. To my two boys, Wynn and Worthy for being my biggest teachers. To my family for being there to support our family. To my village of incredible women who see me and hold space for me. And lastly to the little Amelie inside me, we’ve been through a lot together, thank you for showing me grace, patience, love, and for reminding me of who I really am.
