We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber & Chris McClure and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber & Chris, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When we first started our business, we would work 7 days a week a lot of times late into the night! It was really hard for us to turn away work and we just wanted to help everyone we could. Over the years and as our children have grown, we realized that these customers we are taking care of have families of their own! They would understand that we needed to have a healthy balance between home life and work life. We started working weekdays only and leaving weekends to absolute emergencies! This gave us time to be with our family and create the memories. Our customers understood and still stuck by our sides even when we were booked out a month or two. Balance has really changed our perspective on the business, no one wants to feel run down or tired all the time. You have to love what you do and you can’t do that you’re exhausted from overworking yourself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think what sets us apart from other companies is that we strive to do our absolute best from the moment we talk to you on the phone to the moment we leave your coach. We are constantly comparing our rates to those in shops to ensure we are offering a fair price for our customers. We aren’t in this to make money, we truly love what we do and want everyone to be safe and enjoy their campers like we get to. If we didnt have campers and didnt enjoy camping like we do, it may be a different story… but we do, so we want to make sure everyone else gets to also! When people hear RVMD, I hope they don’t think of just the business name, I hope they think Chris and Amber first, the faces behind the business. We have made so many friends from doing what we do and they truly make what we do worth it all!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Depending on time of year, we are generally in two places.. summer we are on the water and Winter we would be at the desert! We love taking our boat to San Vicente Reservoir in Santee. We are there generally every Saturday and Sunday during summer. You tuck yourself into a cove and float the day away! The desert is our home away from home! We keep our camper out there all year long, take our jeep out and just enjoy the beautiful weather and endless hours of fun. Our friends camp with us and we just enjoy a quick vacation that is only about an hour and a half away from home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dont think we would be where we are without the help and constant push that we were given by Chris’ mentor, Scott Latulippe! He pushed Chris to pursue trade schooling and made sure he was on track every step of the way. He answered every phone call, took time from his day to sit there and talk through frustrations and concerns. He bought us our first cargo van when we first started out to ensure we could succeed properly as a mobile business! He was truly the best thing to happen to us in regards to our business. Scott passed away 2 years ago and every day since, we have pushed ourselves to make him proud and continue to grow our business like he knew we could.
