We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Living with chronic illness and autoimmune disease my whole life, I always had to do my own extensive research and learned the hard way that I had to be my own loudest advocate for myself. There is a huge need for support and information that is easily accessible to those who struggle with chronic health issues. I strongly believe in healing the root causes versus just managing symptoms and in my experience, it was hard to find medical professionals willing to hear me out and work with me in that aspect. So, through trial and error and LOTS of research, I finally started uncovering answers and became really passionate about sharing my journey in the hopes of helping others sift through the “noise” on the internet and experience healing themselves. My business naturally was born through sharing what I was going through in real time. I now have several nutrition certifications, am in a coaching certification program and have created the brand “Your Wellness Bestie” on instagram to help women overcome stress and overwhelm in their lives through healing and plant medicine!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My brand, Your Wellness Bestie, is all about becoming and living as your highest self. What does that mean? It means shaking the habit of just getting by and surviving to actually being present and taking care of yourself from the inside out so that you can experience life to the fullest in a state of peace and joy daily. This looks like the foods you put in your body, how you talk to yourself and others, mindfulness, intuitive physical movement, financial literacy and wellness, and spirituality. It’s truly all encompassing and everything is interconnected more than most people realize. This business has evolved greatly over the last 6 years and I’m most proud of the community I’ve built on instagram. A large percentage of my community has followed me through each up level and growth spurt that I’ve had on my own healing journey and in my business and I’ve had the honor of watching them grow and up level in their own lives as well. It wasn’t easy to get to the place I’m at today. Social media has a dark side of keyboard warriors who can be brutal in their messages and comments so I really had to learn to not feel like I have to defend myself and realize that people who are hurting need to tear others down to feel better. It’s never personal. With situations like that, you just block and move on and say a quick prayer that whatever they’re going through gets a little easier for them. One of the things I preach all the time with my clients now is that everything is neutral until you give it meaning. So if you get a hurtful message, you have two choices. You can choose to take it personally and get mad about it and react and hurt them back OR you can choose to see it as someone really struggling and hurting and genuinely send them love – even if you just silently think it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Girl’s trip, I am HERE FOR IT! Welcome to my small town in Connecticut! I live for the water so we are obviously going to the shore. Downtown Mystic is one of my favorite places to hang out. It is filled with cute shops, tons of history, and lots of shoreline. The perfect day there is paddle-boarding and catching some sun and then heading over to Mystic Market to grab some food to take to Stonington Vineyard for a little picnic and wine tasting. Mystic aquarium is right next to the shops downtown and growing up I was always obsessed with penguins after reading Mr. Poppers Penguins so I love to go hang out with them and cry about how I can’t take them all home with me! Red 36 is my favorite place to grab a cocktail. They have a gorgeous deck on the water and it’s an ideal spot to watch the sun set. I could easily spend a whole day browsing the shops at Olde Mystic Village. A fun fact about me that not a lot of people know is I did Irish Step Dancing competitively for 13 years so Irish Eyes is usually my first stop, brings back all the memories! If you’re obsessed with the holiday spirit, Sofia’s Mystical Christmas is like Christmas morning year round and so fun to explore. For my fellow spirit junkies, Dharma Jewel is the spot. It is impossible for me to walk in there and not leave with a new book, crystal or piece of jewelry! Lastly, being a pirate for the day at Mystic Seaport Museum is a must! There are replica historic ships you can board and tour and there is always some kind of fun event to take part of. I’ve been going to Mystic since I was a little kid and still, after all these years, I’m finding new things to try and do!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to shoutout Alexis from @fullofsips ! We met just over two years ago through instagram and connected over both wanting to grow in the online space and to use our platforms to create value for our communities. She is always there supporting every new venture of mine and gives really intentional and thoughtful feedback. We constantly spark creativity in each other, bounce ideas around, and collaborate to share value with each other’s communities. There can be a lot of pressure and judgement in the online world so we always help to keep each other positive and she always makes sure I (and everyone else!) know my value!
