We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success are both my kids and my passion and love for what i do. There are times were it is difficult to juggle my life as a mom, wife, aunt, daughter, etc. Especially recently with Covid 19. The way i get myself through these difficult times is by reminding myself that i have 8 little eyes looking up to me. Who love that mommy is a baker. They look forward to seeing my creations and are so proud of me with everything i do. I grew up with self employed parents and that made a huge impact on me, to see the hard work pay off and the love put into their businesses. Now looking back i see how so much of that is in me. And that is something i would love to instill in my kids as well.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have had a love for baking since i was very young. It wasn’t until my youngest was a few months old and i decorated my first cookie. I was hooked!! I loved decorating cookies. And after having three babies all two years apart, i knew i needed to do this for myself. It hasn’t always been easy, there have definitely been tough times. But i truly love what i do, and as much as I’ve thought of throwing in the towel. Baking and creating fulfills me so much i couldn’t imagine no longer doing it. It is a part of me that brings me joy and keeps me focused on my capabilities.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love San Diego and there are so many amazing places. I love food and eating so i would be introducing them to all my favorite food places. Id start at the harbor, maybe take a walk from the harbor to Seaport Village. Do a little shopping in the village shops and grab an ice cream cone from Ben and Jerrys. Enjoy that as we walk along the harbor and take a pic with our famous Unconditional Surrender Statue. Walk by the massive USS Midway and tell them how i had my senior prom on it and it was so cool. We would then enjoy a meal overlooking the harbor at The Brigantine. The following morning we would enjoy a ride to Chula Vista and enjoy delicious chilaquiles for breakfast with a michelada at Don Rafas. We would then take a short trip to the Marina where we could sit and chat while the kids run around or take a walk along the water. And since were close by why not finish off the day with mouth watering Tacos from Tacos el Gordo. If taking a little drive i also love One Paseo in Del Mar where you can choose from a variety of different places to eat and enjoy that outdoors. As well as you can do a little shopping once your nice and full. I do enjoy being near the coast accompanied by my family and seeing my kids enjoy the outdoors. There are so many places in San Diego that are so beautiful and breathtaking. And the food is to die for! So many different places with different flavors and ambiance. I know in any direction i go there will be a great memory made.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people to thank. As a whole my family, they are extremely supportive and they encourage me and motivate me to keep pushing. They never hesitate to get their hands dirty and help out if needed. But without a doubt i couldn’t do all i do without my husband, Matt. He not only hands on helps me in any way i need him. If he doesn’t how to, he will do his best to learn it. He pushes me out of my comfort zone because he knows i am capable of so much. My business has grown and will keep growing because i not only have amazing customers but because my loved ones keep me going.
