We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Biltz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was in grade school, I have always been fascinated by the content creator/influencer community. Growing up, I would spend hours watching beauty and fashion videos on YouTube. It has been a goal of mine to start my own channel, but I have always been afraid to put myself out there and try new things. During the pandemic and being on lockdown, I worked on overcoming that fear and started making short video content for TikTok and posting more pictures on Instagram. Since then, I have enjoyed the content creation process and hope to continue to grow my passion into a career!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create fashion and beauty content on TikTok sharing my favorite items and how-to tutorials on trendy styles! I am the proudest of my clothing hauls that have reached hundreds of thousands of views and helped me get recognized by brands like Missy Empire and Soulmia. I am grateful that social media platforms like TikTok encourage small creator content, which has made the process of getting recognized by a large audience easier. However, producing content takes a lot of time and energy that can sometimes go unrecognized or feel wasted. I try to stay optimistic and remind myself that in the beginning, quantity is always better than quality. I have learned that trial and error is great to determine what your audience like to see from you and being able to build on that is key. About my story, I initially wanted to work in social media marketing for brands and then realized that I could use these same concepts to help market myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some places that I find essential to the San Diego experience would be Seaport Village, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and La Jolla Shores! Carne asada fries and California burritos are a must try in the food category!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my close friends, family and significant other for always encouraging me and celebrating even the smallest achievements I have made so far. It means a lot to have people who recognize the joy you get from doing something you love and supporting you through it, especially when you’re not the most confident in your craft.
