We had the good fortune of connecting with J. Longbow and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J., what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
ive always liked movies and was surrounded by art stuff as my parents always encouraged arts and creativity over anything boring. i was able to get an apprenticeship at a local Prop Shop after high school where i learned a lot about the trade. my brother made me get a mechanical engineering degree and along the way learned 3d printing and some simple 3d modeling which allowed me to continue my prop shop experience into my own prop shop with my friend and production partner who does a lot of his own props and handles the business stuff.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make 3d printed props and things that people want made. from movie props to replicas or prototype designs for upstart products, ill make them if its within my ability and go the step further to finish the props. a lot of people offer to print objects for you but not many provide the full package. im most excited for new designs or big ideas that i can help with like my big Monster Hunter Greatsword that i want to be the center point of my shop. it took a lot of trial and error to get good at 3d printing and art in general but i had good teachers. i want people to know that im just a guy who likes to make things and wants to pursue his passion of animatronics and to give me a shot. once i can get higher up on the ladder i can reach down and help those around me rise up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably take them to ocean beach, a good little town i grew up in. take them to Hodads for a burger and a shake or Cotijas for mexican food. Belmont Park is good for rides and getting out. Balboa park is great to visit too with all the museums. san diego has lots to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hallows Keep Creations for taking me under their wing. Dr. Cyrus Saghafi and Dr. Duncan McGehee for getting me into 3d printing and mechatronics. Jon Medel for bringing me into 48 hour films and more into film making.
and of course all of my good friends that keep me going.
