We had the good fortune of connecting with Alecsa Geaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alecsa, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Just thinking about risks always gives me an uneasy feeling. Typically I like to plan and have a structured schedule and an organized list of tasks both short term and long term. However, I think this past year has definitely pushed me to come outside my comfort zone to take risks and have faith in believing that whatever is meant for me will happen. At the beginning of the year, I was an anxious senior in college scared of what was next. Now, I graduated, obtained a steady job, and own a small business! Being in quarantine has pushed a lot of people to come outside their comfort zones and start to pursue things they are passionate about. After witnessing a lot of people, especially my peers, start to work on things they are passionate about, it made me want to work just as hard, take a risk, and start a business on top of my full-time job. Starting Shop With Grace, a resale shop, gave me the opportunity to share my love for fashion with others. Although sometimes it can be overwhelming, I realize that I have the opportunity to pursue all my passions and it feels extremely fulfilling. Back then, I was worried about what everyone would think about deciding to start a small business like Shop With Grace. Honestly, I still have those days, but being in quarantine has made me realize to stop second-guessing everything and really embrace my passions and deal with whatever comes after it the best I can. Without taking these types of risks and putting faith in whatever happens next for me, I would not be where I am today. That is something I will forever be grateful for!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Shop With Grace is a resale business that I founded in August 2020. I have always been in the resaling game since I was in middle school. From selling clothes on Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, and even my own social media channels, I started to realize that I can turn this into potentially something bigger if I start my own business. I love to hunt for special gems and sometimes that leads to piles of clothes that start to get unused. Especially as a college student, that’s how I wanted to keep up with my style without breaking too much bank. As a result, I would buy and sell over and over again. When people started to ask me about the clothes I wore and asking if I would sell them, it really gave me the drive to start something on my own. I loved the idea of buying things and having people interested in the items I was able to find! Starting this small business was not easy! I did everything on my own and still to this day I have questions on how to successfully run something on your own, but I love learning how to do things along the way. Although I know it is a small resale shop, it just makes me happy to say I have something on my own that I am passionate about, and I think that is what’s most important. I’m here for the ride and thankful for anyone that supports my business whether it’s a purchase, like, or reshare!
