We had the good fortune of connecting with Aida & Syncletica and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aida & Syncletica, what do you want people to remember about you?
We want our legacy to be that swim culture is ingrained in the San Diego lifestyle, not just for surfers, therefore swimsuits should be available for all sizes in a variety of styles. We would like to be remembered as a brand who celebrates all shapes, sizes and cultures.
What should our readers know about your business?
We started Hola Swim because we felt that there was not really a company that offered a variety of styles that was size-inclusive and stylish. We started a capsule collection for Fashion Week San Diego – we fell in love with the process and never looked back. It was not an easy process because San Diego is limited on manufacturing and that was an important factor for us, to we could be hands-on during the process. Since neither of us had manufactured clothing before, we quickly learned the process.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The pandemic has made things different in San DIego, but not impossible to go out and enjoy our beautiful city. First and foremost, we would recommend to go to the beach, perhaps start at Wind-N-Sea and then dinner at Karinas, right down the street. The next morning we would suggest to head to Golden Hill to Krakatoa for a coffee and a bagel. That’s a short distance from Balboa Park, even a walk around the park is beautiful. For lunch head to Panama 66. Great food and fun atmosphere. For a night walk, head to SeaPort Village. Beautiful sightseeing and a ton of places to shop and eat. From there you can take a ferry to Coronado. Make sure to walk around the historic Hotel Del and go paddleboarding in Glorietta Bay. The next day, you can spend your day shopping and eating in Barrio Logan. Chilaquiles at El Carrito, tacos at Salud, tamales at Cuatro Milpas, burgers at Hayes, and on and on. The afternoon, it’s fun to head to Ocean Beach for their vintage shopping and a long walk on the pier to catch the green flash at sundown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to our parents – or as we like to call them, our number one interns. Of course, our spouses for allowing us to pursue this crazy dream. WE can’t forget our friends and family who always show support by not only rocking Hola Gear, but always showing up and supporting us at our events. We would also like to give a shout out to fellow businesses on Logan Avenue, who make our community such a special place.
