We had the good fortune of connecting with Tawnee Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tawnee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up, I always had a dream to be my own boss and run my own company. When I graduated from FIDM in 2009, the economy had taken a hit and I was scooped up by the corporate world. Being the driven person I am, I quickly moved my way up the corporate ladder, but my creative entrepreneur personality was eager to shine through. In 2013, I launched my first company, Urban Shindigs, with my husband, I do the event planning & design and he does the DJ’ing. We quickly grew doing 30 weddings in our first year! Shortly after that, I decided to put my marketing degree to use and launched Girlboss En Route where I build websites for rad people doing rad things. These two business flourished over the next 5 years all while I was still working my corporate job.

In 2018, I actually decided to step away from my companies and focus on my corporate job. In 2019, I had my son and then 2020 hit and I became a stay at home/ work from home mom…

Over the next two years, my life went through some major changes and that entrepreneur life came calling back. Towards the end of 2021, I decided to jump all in and start back up with Urban Shindigs, Girlboss En Route, and my most recent venture L1920 a wedding and events venue locate in Alpine CA.

Looking back, starting my own business/businesses is the only option for me. Corporate world is secure but I have bigger dreams that go beyond the glass ceiling.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In all my businesses I would say what sets us apart is US. Each brand is a true representation of who we are. For example…

Urban Shindigs is not your typical wedding planning company, hence the name. We bring outside of the box wedding and events to life and test the boundaries of traditional. We are also big on the idea of bringing LOVE alive in a room full of your closets friends and family which is the essence behind US.

Girlboss En Route is who I am. A Girlboss en route to her many business ventures, detours, and path. I take people along for the journey in hopes to inspire them to do the same. I walk my clients from beginning stages of business to functioning thriving empires.

L1920 is a unique wedding & event venue that has so much character but is also a blank slate allowing you to bring your vision alive.

I am where I am today because of hard work, dedication to my clients, and grit. This has not been an easy journey, it’s been full of highs and lows. But overall rewarding in so many ways, being able to serve my clients to create the day of their dreams or help them launch there dream business is something I will never take for granted.

I have learned that challenges in business are just opportunities for growth. We can always learn from our mistakes and that is exactly what I have done and continue to do. The most important lesson I have learned is its OK to ask for help, and network, network, network!

I want people to know that when you work with me I will give 110%, I will always go above and beyond because thats just good business. Also to entrepreneurs or someone thinking about starting your own business… DO IT! Don’t overthink the details just start…but contact www.girlbossenroute.com first!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my husband Luis aka DJ Luis the Beast! I am always coming up with our next business venture and at times take more risk then one may recommend. He has always been so supportive and encouraging. He truly is my number one fan.
