We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Fall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandria, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important element to my growth, both with my brand as well as in my personal life, is simply believing in myself and what I am capable of. I think a lot of people have dreams but have a hard time believing that they can actually come true deep down and nothing else will hold us back more than that. Maybe its self doubt, or maybe its being surrounded by negative people, but a lot of people really have to unlearn that. It dosn’t matter where you came from, or even where you are today. All that matters is that you know what you want out of life and that you learn to genuinely believe that your dreams are possible and once you do that you are going to actually take the proper steps to make things start happening for yourself. The more you believe that you can make your dreams come true, the more action you are going to take for them to.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a fine artist working in illustration, painting, and sculpture. I specialize in animals, nature, surrealism, and fantasy. I like to work with a lot of bright bold colors and I also like to work with strong black and white contrast, often mixing the two in with each other. Some of my drawings are dark and creepy, while others are more happy and whimsical, and some are a combination of both. Most of my paintings share similar styles with my illustrations, but tend to have a bit more natural color schemes and tend to be fairly surreal. I also paint some pieces that appeal to wider audiences, such as my minimalistic palm tree paintings. These series are more affordable than my highly detailed surreal paintings as well. I even have a series of realistic ocean pieces that feature real sand and they tend to be pretty popular with a wide range of people.
Some of the biggest challenges that I have personally overcome along the way are simply the ups and downs. Sometimes I will sell multiple illustrations and paintings in a month, on top of a few commissions and I am beyond humbled and grateful. Other times, such as when Covid was affecting things really badly, for example, things were really hard. I wasn’t able to really do art shows in Los Angeles for a long period and people weren’t really spending money. It was not easy. The biggest thing that I have learned is not to give up and to just keep creating and keep looking for people who are going to want to support your art. Thats all you can do. You cant quit when the going gets rough if you want to get to the top.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite parts of Los Angeles are Downtown and Venice Beach. Some areas I would also show someone visiting around would be Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills because they are just so iconic as well. The best restaurants in Los Angeles are Crossroads, Pura Vita, Sho-jin, and Gracias Madre so If someone was visiting and wanted to eat out I would definitely take them to all three. My favorite places to drink are the rooftop bars in downtown, or the Bungalow or Victorian in Santa Monica. I’m not a huge club person, but if you’re looking for a club, Academy is crazy. More than anything, if I had a friend in down I’d honestly just want to take them on some nice hikes with some views of the ocean or some waterfalls.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am the most thankful for my followers. Who I want to thank more than any of them honestly has to be my followers that have gotten art from me, or commissioned me for custom pieces, but I also greatly appreciate those who support me but don’t have the extra cash to be spending on art. Wanting to be a professional fine artist is not an easy career, so every time someone supports me and my work I am extremely grateful. Every sale I make, even if it’s a really small one, genuinely reminds me that my dreams can come true and inspires me to keep going.
