We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddie Mackey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maddie, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from San Diego, CA, born and raised and I lived in la Jolla during my high school years! I am so grateful to take on working with the La Jolla Social map business and community. My dad started this over 10 years ago to share the beauty, fun, magic and events in La Jolla!
Growing up here, I learned a lot about how lucky I was to be a kid growing up with access to the beach and the snow within hours, I had a great team to look up to with my parents, Deanna Mackey and Rob Mackey, Kai Koehnke, Francesca Canales and many others here in the La Jolla + Greater San Diego area!
I am now raining a daughter here in the area and see that she is enjoying so many of the pastimes that I used to and I celebrate this town, the beauty, the ocean and the community daily!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I combined my marketing experience and sales experience from my business, Media On The Rise and my community + people skills to be able to sell the ad spots, create connections with the community and build long lasting relationships.
We overcome challenges by getting creative! We have been hosting more networking and happy hours events and being more active in the community and seeing the results from that!
I want the world to know how amazing La Jolla is and that La Jolla Social is always a collaborative resource for learning about the area or advertising your business + services to the local are via the map and internet world via social media!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Pick Up a La Jolla Social Map at one of our 6 Free Distribution Boxes
Breakfast at The Cottage (Jason the owner is amazing)
Walk to the cove to see the seals and maybe walk down the famous staircase at Sunny Jim’s Cave Store! https://www.cavestore.com/
Have a relaxing time sitting in the park or on the sand!
Grab a coffee or smoothie from Parakeet Cafe!
Enjoy some Art Galleries and Shopping (maybe visit Trance for some cute clothes or Bang & Olufsen for cool tech speakers)
Finish with Dinner at El Avocado (vegan) or Lobster West (amazing!)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to Rob Mackey the founder of La Jolla Social and Kai Koehnke who managed this business for many years prior to me. We have many individuals dedicated to the growth of this map and business and it has been amazing to see how many people use this map for free in town, utilize the resources we provide and engage with us online in our social media and newsletter.
