Meet Shelby Gordon | Photographer, Producer, & Fine Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, why did you pursue a creative career?
I always knew I wanted to take a creative path from a young age. My stubborn nature allowed me to follow that path ruthlessly. Making art in any form has and always will be a source of joy and fulfillment for me. I guess you could say that I’ve pursued art my entire life because it is my one true love. Being able to turn my artistic/creative abilities into a career allows me to live a life I always dreamed of.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve worked for many years to develop my style in my art whether that’s Photography, Fine Art etc. That being said I think as Artists we are constantly evolving within our own styles. When it comes to my Photography I tend toward cinematic, romantic, and authentic moments. What really gets me excited about making art is my exploration into many mediums- I’m currently diving into selling my wheel-thrown pottery in addition to my Photography.
Getting to a professional state of making art is in no way an easy task or process. That being said, it is so rewarding to be able to create imagery that help represent people, places and businesses through your creative vision and seeing clients light up when you deliver those images.
I’ve learned many a lesson along the way but what I can say is stick to making Art you want to make, not what you think others want. Stick to your guns and know your value. Never stop creating.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I actually have my best friend visiting soon and I plan on taking her on an LA adventure full of delicious food, beautiful views, possibly some thrifting and above all exploration.
Camping in Joshua Tree, Hiking in Malibu, eating on Sawtelle, cold plunge into the Pacific. Honestly the possibilities are endless in and around LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In addition to my own hard work and the clients that assign value to my art, I attribute any success I’ve had as an artist to the support of my mentors, family and friends. Making a career as an artist is difficult but I’ve always had encouragement from people who love and believe in me. Im a lucky gal.
